I like this place a lot... But a sharp broken plastic (looks like a sour cream container) came out of my mother's plate.. Other then that, their food is pretty good & service is okay. My man prefers on the border but I prefer this one instead. Price is on the $$ side, but the portion of the food makes it up.

This is my second time here. They have a yelp deal where when you check in you get 10% off of your check so not bad. It was pretty crowded but we were able to be seated without 15-20 minutes. We sat outside since we had a big party. I ordered the biscuits and gravy dish. It was an ok dish but I've had better. I need more protein, I was given like 1 or 2 sauces. As far as service I thought the server was rather rude. She was more concerned about getting our order as fast as possible. Whenever there were choices we had to make she would say it really fast and not even look at the person when they talked. It wasn't the best especially with some of our party members because they're older Filipino ladies that don't usually eat out so they need more assistance than myself or my siblings and cousins. She also didn't check up much on our party making sure our coffee was always filled or that we were ok. I had a better experience last time but this time was not as great.

I received a reply from the owner Joseph. He apologized for the horrible service and asked me to give them another try. He would flip the bill. It took me a whole year and on my cousins repeated request to go back and give them another try. I was pleasantly surprised that the service has improved 100% and the food taste much, much better (probably cause it was't cold this time). Thank you Joseph A. for writing me back and showing that you care about your business and clientele. Good job, breakfast was fantastic!

Where to start. First I can't figure out why this chain of restaurants is so famous. I don't find any of their food appealing. I've been 4 times but won't be back. All food is average and expensive for what you get. $20 for breakfast is crazy. Then there is the style of cooking. Maybe the kitchen is busy but alittle prep work might help. For example, my last omelet had mushrooms which were partially sautéed. By the time it got to my table there was an ocean of water in the bottom of my plate. The mushrooms continued to leach water which filtered onto the plate. Fully sautéed mushrooms have shriveled up and don't leach. Yuck. Many other better places for breakfast. Try Hash House a go go for one.

What a sad place to eat. No one greets you upon entering and it takes at least 10 minutes form someone to take your order. Keep in mind we ate breakfast on a Thursday so it was not super busy. I ordered a simple plate... Bacon and eggs with hash browns. The eggs we way over medium, the bacon inedible, and the hash browns were still cold in the middle. I Asked the busboy who actually brought our food for my toast because it was not brought with my breakfast and he returned with raw toast. Seriously??? Cant even cook toast?? Unreal... Especially for $13 per plate. Unless this is what you are looking for..... Keep your money and look for something else. I give it one star because when I complained about the food the waitress comped my meal and gave me a coupon for free waffles next time.

We came on a Sunday, THE busiest It gets too considering they are a brunch spot! This was also our first time trying BYC. The wait wasn't so bad, we waited a good 10-15min around 1130a. We were served promptly as well, I think the wait for our food took the longest? But that is a given since it IS Sunday. Our servers were really friendly and quick and did ask us if everything was ok, we had no problems with customer service. We ordered The stuffed french toast and John Wayne! It was a large amount that was served so of course we took the other half home! The menu made the food look and sound delicious but the food seemed as if we could've just made it at home so our order wasn't all that great in the end. The orange was actually really good and I was thinking they should have mimosas, guess what? They do! I didn't order it so *maybe* next time? Best part was the 10% OFF when checking into the Yelp app! The worst was maybe the parking since it is shared within the plaza. Overall, I liked it but it's the food that makes you think that since you paid so much only to know you should've just cooked it yourself!

This is a very busy location but the service is on point as my family would say. Our server was amazing and quick to take care of all of our meal needs. Not once did I have to worry about refilling my water. Another server was constantly running around to make sure people always had their drinks filled. Maybe next time I will try their twelve egg omelet challenge!

Best Reastraunt breakfast me & my family have had in awhile. My kids love it they actually eat all there good! Best omelets in SD hands down! Even there coffee taste good. My fav is the Cisco Kid omelette & the John Wayne. The service is very friendly especially at the door/register & there pretty fast as well only waited bout 10 min to get our good once we ordered. And there very generous with there portions love that. This place has ruin IHop for my family, we'll never go to Ihop again for breakfast we'll stick to Broken Yolk. There OJ is actually freshly squeezed & very good.

Breakfast was good! Food came out in a quick fashion but as hey got busier the device suffered slightly. We had the Breakfast Tacos and the biscuits and gravy. Definitely better than IHOP for sure

Food is good however service is not really, the server almost sliced my toe and didn't feel apologetic for it. That was just in the beginning and then they didn't refill our water, and at the end they gave us the wrong check worth twice our bill. It sucks that service is bad because the food is delicious. I got an omelette with my boyfriend and it was big enough to split!

Came in for a quick breakfast and it was surprisingly quick! The Eggs Benedict was great and it was a great experience until I got the bill for a $3 cup of coffee! Maybe if I sat and had 3 cups which are very small, it would be cool. Great service though.

I was pretty happy with my service and food. I ordered the eggs Benedict florentine and my daughter ordered the breakfast burger. The serving of the eggs benedict florentine was a generous helping and they were not skimpy with the hollandaise sauce either, the eggs were perfectly poached, I would definitely ordered that again! My daughter loved her burger and we were both pleased with the menu options which will have us coming back to try more things.

Good food and decent service but I received a coupon for a whopping $2 off and then when I went to use it on a Sunday, they pointed out in the tiny fine print that it's excluded on Sunday's which is not cool because that's the only time I go. It says to me that they're a little too frugal. Haven't ever seen any other deals, specials, coupons etc. Money is tight for some and. Little break from time to time would be nice. I give 3 stars.

  • Nicole W.

Service was ok it's hit or miss on what you order. I had the biscuit and gravy and the gravy was sweet and the biscuits weren't the best and my food didn't come out fresh neither did my friend his fries weren't cook all the way. I will say this there Bloody Mary was amazing.

This place gets you a table faster than other restaurants. Their food it's delicious and the outmosphere it's great! This place it's affordable but they don't have many specials as other restaurants but their food taste better.

***What's the Rush????***** C+ establishment / C (Average Breakfast Food) / A (Service) Been wanting to try this spot for a while. ehhh - I wasn't impressed. I had a choice to go here or IHOP. I'll stick with IHOP for breakfast. My meal was actually ok - nothing to call home about. My hash browns were VERY GREASY!! Coffee kept coming so that's a +. Our server was decent - friendly and attentive. I'm not too happy with the price. Seems overpriced if you ask me. Bathrooms were clean. I might give this place a go again for lunch - but NEVER for another breakfast. 2 Thumbs up for the 10% off for checking in with YELP!

It was busy on my visit on 8/11/15 . i had a little one with me and the order was not correct nor the wait. But it's ok . the staff there notice my concerns and handled it without any resistance. which kept the experience more important than the dining. i would most likely come back.

RUDE RECEPTIONIST. So I know I came here on Mother's Day. I know it's gonna be busy. I checked in and was told that the wait is 15 mins. It took longer because obviously it's packed on Mother's Day. I went back inside to ask to ask how much longer the wait is. I told the receptionist that it has been almost an hour and I just want to know. She had the nerve to tell me itms only been 50 mins! So I once again asked how long? She said another 15 mins! I don't need her sassing me correcting me that I have only been here for 50 mins instead of an hour.

10 minute wait on a Sunday morning was pretty good. The service was good and our food came out fast. The food itself was a bit subpar, my eggs Benedict where a bit on the dry side but the sauce was decent. We also ordered some chillaquiles and rather enjoyed them however the rice was really crispy, seems like it was the bottom of the pot. Overall this place is ok -

The first few times I've gone, the service was terrible. The female waitresses are rude, inattentive, and unprofessional. Not a smile to be made, and I felt as if I were being rushed. The food was mediocre. The last time I went, I found the male waiters were much more consistent in checking on the tables needs, and making us feel comfortable.

This was my comment that I wrote to their corporate office. I know it's long but it shows my completely dissatisfaction with my visit. Enjoy: My girlfriend and I were disappointed with our visit to your restaurant today on September 27, 2013. I have been your establishment several times before and have never had such bad service and food. I actually have not had such a bad experience in a long time with any restaurant for that matter. We were sat down fairly quickly, one of the positives points in our visit. We waited for a our drink orders to be taken for approximately 10 minutes. The waitress was very pleasant throughout our entire visit. We ordered our food once she returned with our drinks. My girlfriend ordered the New York Steak and eggs (medium well) and I ordered the border Benedict. The food took a long time to come out. During that time no one came around to check on us and refill my coffee or my girlfriend's tea. Once the food came out. My order was incorrect. They brought me the regulars eggs Benedict. It took another 5 minutes before I could get someone's attention about my incorrect order. It was not very busy at the time that we went to the restaurant (noon). It seemed like there was an abundance of busboys but not enough waitresses. Anytime that a table cleared out it was reset instantly. The waitress that was working in our area did not come around very often to check on us. While I waited my order to be corrected my girlfriend ate her food. She could not eat it. The steak was burnt and flavorless. The country potatoes were also flavorless. She informed the waitress once she finally refilled my coffee. The waitress took the plate away and said that she would show the cook the mistake. We had been sitting down for almost 45 minutes before I received my correct order. The food was bland and flavorless. The sauce on top of the Benedict, the steak and the potatoes lacked flavor. I had to put plenty of salt, pepper and Tabasco to make the food some what satisfying. If I was not as hungry as I was at that point I wouldn't have eaten it. I was so irritated at this point that I didn't even didn't want to complain. The manager was nice enough to remove my girlfriend's meal from my our bill. I will most likely never return to this restaurant or any other one associated with it. I will inform my friends and family about our experience on this date. I will also post this comment on yelp and other social media to spread the work about my experience. Thank you for your time. I hope that other people have better experience than I did.

Ok so the waiter was very good he was very accommodating when my daughter wanted pancakes instead of toast he recommended a special. Which she loved at are every bit of it. The only negative thing about her meal was the pancakes came without butter and I had to ask for it. I got an omelet asked for egg whites and it was two dollars more seemed a little excessive but whatever. I asked for extra crispy home fries and they were regular but the plus was the flavor of the food was all there tasted very good. The price points seemed too high for a breakfast place as I go to family house of pancakes and the serve GREAT food and lots of it I always have leftovers to take home and can feed a family of five for just over 20.00. To where as here it was over 20.00 just for me and my eight year old and there were no leftovers! The three star rating is only for my waiter and the flavor of the food!

  • Misty B.

Terrible service and found hair in our food. When they first brought out the food, items such as toast and cranberry juice were missing. We had to repeatedly ask for them. We also asked for one of the meals to go, and simply gave us a box. It wasn't busy and they weren't understaffed so I don't understand the service we received. They tried to give us a complimentary meal but I don't think we'll ever go back.

This place was great! They have good specials for both breakfast and lunch. The prices are reasonable and the portions are good for 2 people so you get your dollar's worth. Great customer service as well.

We just moved to the area and were looking for a good breakfast place and we found it. No wait to be seated and once we ordered our food was literally on the table in less than 10 minutes. Although after our food arrived our server basically forgot about is until he brought the check. The food was really good and filling and fair priced. This was our first time at this establishment. No complaints. I will post another review after we go back a few more times.

Very dissapointed. I use to love the broken yolk in pb... now that they have opened several locations they have defenetly sacrificed the quality of their food. If I am going to be asked to spend $30 for 2 in breakfast I'm not coming here... I can easily find something with bigger and tastier food. Wish I could give this place 0 stars!

    (1)
  • Natalia G.

Would give it ZERo if I could. The 1 star is for the service. Staff is effective & friendly. 4th time there & NONE have been good. Totally less than average. Drive a litttle further & find GREat breakfast at the same price. Worth the wait on a weekend? Definitely NOT!

    (1)
  • Mae F.

Overpriced. Go to IHOP. They give out coupons in the mailers but they aren't good for weekends or holidays. There are too many competitors for eating out and the prices here aren't worth it.

I found a pub hair in my omelet , and my friend had the sticker from the banana in his pancakes , very poor

I've been to this broken yolk a few times before, and have always ordered the same thing. I couldn't get enough of their borders Benedict! during my last visit, I was served with dry and very hard sweet corn cakes and the whole dish turned out pretty yucky. I should've returned it, but I was too hungry to care and just eventually moved on with my life. Not only that I was served with dry corn cakes but my husband ordered the 'wellness wrap' and his plate was soaked in butter. Even he was disappointed with his food. But overall, I'm giving 3 stars because the food we ordered was terrible, server was nice and attentive. Can't say much but we won't be coming back to this place anytime soon.

We drove a half hr to our favorite restaurant and when we got there we were seated on the patio. A few minutes went by and we still weren't noticed. Once another family was seated and helped, we asked the patio waitress if someone was working our area. Before even finishing our sentence, she cut us off and said she would be right with us. By that time, we had waited 15 minutes without someone coming over. Then other staff proceeds or help the family that was just seated. We had 4 staff members make eye contact with us across the patio and no one came over. Finally a bus boy came over to give us silverware but we told him nevermind. My husband went to explain the situation to the manager why we left without even getting our drink order in and he didn't seem to care.

Went this morning and for once there wasn't a wait. Sat down and was quickly forgotten by our waiter. The food was sub par but above all i never like when im ignored at a restaurant. Orange juice was delicious though.

  • Marco B.

Eggs & hashbrowns were very greasy, service was good, coffee was topped off regularly...the rest of my party had no complaints... Restaurant looks friendly, filled up quickly...This isn't my first visit to a Broken Yolk so there is a level of service you expect, I wasn't disappointed in that aspect... Gonna wait and see how my gallbladder reacts, lol...

    (3)
  • Alejandra O.

Soooo while I don't hate this place, I don't love it either. The wait was fine, under 15 minutes at 10am on Saturday. Now, my omelet was under cooked but my waitress was amazing about it, she came and asked me if I was doing ok because she probably seen the look of disgust in my face... I asked her if it was cheese or runny egg oozing out of my omelet and she said it was probably the egg and that she would take it back, I hate to complain but she insisted she would get me a new one. Came back with a new omelet within 5 minutes. So, while the food was mediocre the service was excellent in my experience. Isela R. was AMAZING!

  • Tasha R.

Great food, the Boarder check omelette is super delish. The problems I seem to always run into when I eat there is slow costumer service and there is always a 20 minute min wait. The establishment is pretty clean for the most part and the do try to have the tables cleaned once costumes leave. I give this place a 3.5

  • Ezequiel H.

I have been waiting all day to shit on this place. Don't mean to be a dick but the service sucks. For one they messed up our drinks, and the waiter didn't bother to fix his mistake. Second another dipshit from the kitchen, oh I only wish I got his name so I can burn him on yelp, anyhow, this guy brings our food carrying three plates, and places them infront of the wrong person, and when I told him what I ordered he says " I'm holding three plates you can help me" like if I was being rude for not helping or something, that really took a lot for me not to slap his bitch ass. And the third thing, is when we finally got our food, my wife's plate was cold. All in all, don't come here. Your better off going down the street to ihop. I swear, if it could be a negative star, it would be like negative 3 stars.

    (1)
  • Danny A.

The health department should really check up this every month. I was able to see in the kitchen and no one had on gloves while handling food! Which might explain why we ended up sick as a dog! Plus it seemed like me and my brother were the only ones that receive bad customer service maybe because of the color of our skin? I would never come back and I would recommend people to stay away!

  • June C.

This place has mixed reviews because their quality across the board varies. We didn't have to wait at all to be seated on a busy Sunday morning, which I think was pretty lucky. However, waiting to be waited on took a while. Once we put in our orders it was more waiting. Finally, when the food arrived, everything I had was good except my potatos, which were undercooked. The other dish - the same potatos were overcooked. My toast had been waiting too long to be served, so, as a result, it was cold and no longer crunchy. I do like the fact that they use real butter. It does make a difference.

Came here for a family brunch, party of 12 including kids. Waited way longer than expected to be seated. Sat us outside on the patio in the cold with these tiny heaters during the rain. Figured ok we'll deal since we have little kids. Took about 45 or min or more to get our food. Daughters food came out cold yet they fixed it. Rest of our food was a tad bit warm but not hot. Presentation and plating wasn't appetizing. Taste was ok. My blueberry pancake was dry and had about 10 blueberries. I, myself could of made better. And to top it off MOGL only offered 1% cash back instead of 10 and we spent $185. You're better off going to IHOP down the street.

    (1)
  • Chad T.

I was not disappointed at all, the food was excellent and was seated right away! I had the "Stuffed French toast", eggs and sausage and I cleaned my entire plate! The price was like all other breakfast/brunch establishments so overall I would come back and recommend it to all!

Decided to have breakfast and gave The Broken Yolk Cafe a chance. The biscuit was under baked and cold. The omelet was rubbery and I didn't even think that was possible. The only thing I was given that was edible were the hash browns, but since some of them were hanging off the plate and dragged along the table I only got to eat some of them. I told the server and her reply was that she would tell the manager and she did eventually send a hot biscuit to the table. All in all I was very disappointed and will not be returning.

    (1)
  • Miriam V.

The worse eggs Benedict I've had in my life, completely drowned in hollandaise sauce that tasted like gravy. Had to scrape it off with my fork and napkins to get to the eggs. The hash browns were so salty I couldn't eat them. The only reason they get two stars is because the staff is super nice, quick and ready to help you out.

  • Dave B.

This place would not be so bad if the food had any constancy to it.. the few times that I have been to this location I have had so many different portion sizes of the same item varying from too much and the other times too little.... Bottom line is the food is good.. the service is slow and the portion sizes vary..... Oh yeah this place is s Zoo on the weekends as well LoL

  • Lailani S.

We used to love going to Broken Yolk in Eastlake when it first opened....but it seems their quality of food and service has gone down. Our last visit was the last straw. Our food had very small portions, was put on our plate very sloppy and cold. We will be dining at IHOP for breakfast from now on.

    (1)
  • Simon O.

Oh No! How awful can a Quiche for breakfast be? This was possibly the worst breakfast I have ever had. The only redeeming factor was the apologies of the polite staff.

    (1)
  • Alexis M.

Ya this place is just ok. Your better of going to IHOP or Denny's. Came here with some friends for breakfast order the eggs benedict which are my favorite and it was ok :( I could have made this better at home. And to top it off the silver where was dirty and there were floaters in my cup because the glass was dirty. I defiantly wont be coming back here again.

Friday morning at around 8:30 AM, my father and I walk through the festive doors encouraging us that it would be a great place to share some breakfast together. Much to our dismay, the welcoming outer shell was nothing compared to what we were about to experience inside. We were greeted politely by a young hostess, who sat us down in a comfy booth, and as I asked for a gluten free menu; there was little reply. Let me just take a moment to let all of Broken Yolk's chain know, that I consider that to be food segregation. There are many fads coming out, however there are still many in the populous that have some allergy or another, discouraging this percentage from going out to dine since we will not be accommodated to. So with this, please create some sort of allergen menu. Well after that spiel, let's move forward to our waiters. It's sad that in today's society, we no longer greet one another, and now rely on little pieces of plastic pinned to shirts to introduce ourselves. I've been taught by my service industry(for 20+yrs) father that you introduce yourself to your customer and look them in the eye, to create a bond which allows for a more personable experience. Our waiter although polite, was obviously more focused on other customers, causing my father's coffee to go cold as he waited to ask for brown sugar. The waiter even moved so quickly that his name tag served no purpose to our hungry and tired eyes. Now that I've totally berated the service, let's move on to the food critique. We decided to share a full stack of gluten free pancakes, as that was the only thing labeled gluten free and wanted to take no chance of getting sick. It was a joyous moment as the pancakes were presented to us, since nothing else has been appealing thus far. The food was pristine, until I placed a bite of uncooked batter in my mouth. Yuck. The waiter was scripted enough to notify the chefs in the kitchen, but offered no recompense for the "battered" offense. Mind you this is the third attempt at this specific location to receive fully cooked pancakes. (I have been to an Escondido location previously with no problems in the way the pancakes were cooked.) After the 1st and 2nd attempt however, the manager on duty or the waiter at least offered a "free stack on us coupon." This time we only received an apology, and a "discount" that gave us a ticket of close to a dozen eggs($10), for one short cup of cold coffee and poached pancakes. The only positive thing out of this experience is that my father and I are now sitting at Family House of Pancakes, writing this review together over some hot tea, steak, homestyle potatoes, poached eggs, and buckwheat pancakes; all for around the same exact price. Thank you to our saving grace, Grace Marie, at Family House of Pancakes for being a ray of light on this rainy day. Have a nice day all you yelpers!

We decided to try breakfast here today despite the red flags about the service. We were seated, given menus without even a peep from the manager, watched and helped a mother flag down a waiter for more napkins and then walked out after waiting 20ish mins for someone to take our drink and food order. Nothing was ordered anyway, right? We just walked across the parking lot to cool down coffee and enjoyed yummy coffee and croissants just 5 mins later. Needs structure. Doubt we'll be back.

We really like coming here. The eggs are great and the fruit is always fresh and perfectly ripe. I love the hueves ranchero! My husband likes their pancakes, they're huge! The service is very good.

They truly don't care about customer service. First, I had to ask for my water refills and then towards the middle to end of the meal I never got any refills. Then my cup gets taken away. I was so thirsty. 2nd, my friend had pre-ordered for her husband a to go order of pancakes and instead of waiting until the end of the meal to bring it (which all the restaurants I have been to do to keep the freshness of the food), they brought it with our meals. My friend wanted to cancel it because of that (the whipped cream was melted already and made it soggy), but without even checking with management, the waitress flat out said no. Third, we ordered dessert and all of our utensils (but 2 spoons which one was a coffee spoon) were taken away and no one came by to bring us extra utensils. So with 5 girls, we shared 2 spoons. 4th, not even 5 minutes of us paying our bill, the lady had asked us to leave! I understand they need the table, but this was not acceptable and actually very rude. Ive eaten out at so many restaurants and had never had that happen before, even when the restaurant is crowded. Considering we spent a good amount of money too (meals, mimosas, dessert ~$100 and we didn't stuff them in tip) and we had just payed the bill. Food wise, it's standard breakfast fare. Nothing you couldn't find at IHOP or Denny's. It gets crowded considering the only other real breakfast spot in Eastlake is IHOP. But I think next time, IHOP will get my business.

My first time to eat here and maybe my last. I ordered Cookies n' Cream Crepes and I thought it will be very good but it was not. The crepes were too rubbery/tough. My jaw hurts after eating only one. Our server does not even smile and they forgot to put fork for me to use. I heard a lot of not so good things about this broken yolk place in Eastlake but now I know why.

    (1)
  • Melissa G.

I LOVE broken yolk, and particularly one dish that i always get. I don't know what it is about this dish that i love so much because it's nothing special but i crave it and leaves me so satisfied. The BIGGEST downfall with this location in Eastlake is that the service pretty much sucks, not one ever wants to go eat here with me because of it. The prices are a bit high considering it's only breakfast and lunch, but i don't mind paying and going every once in a while. Overall if the service improved i would go more often, since i could actually get friends to come with me. I also loved their anniversary special they had a few months back i went in had a meal with mimosa with a friend and our bill was about $6 :) less then i would spend on one dish. So with that being said.... things to improve on: * MORE DISCOUNTS/ SPECIALS (get mail discounts but they don't apply for take out or they are buy 1 get a discount one second dish ) * BETTER SERVICE.

The service at this place is horrible! I had to send my order back the first time because it was cold when it arrived. When the new meal arrived, I had to remind the waiter SEVERAL times to bring out the hash browns I ordered as a separate side. I made sure to be polite each time because you never want to make anyone handling your food upset. After the fourth reminder, he finally brought them out on an unwashed plate. This caused me to examine the rest of the dishes I was eating from, where I found dried grits on the bottom of my plate and lipstick smudges on my glass. I asked for a manager, made sure everyone there knew they were serving food on dirty dishes and left the restaurant. On the way out the door, the manager tried to calm me by offering me free a meal for me and my guest. I left them on her counter. I will never return.

Never an issue. Everything we order is amazing. Been here more than 20 times. Staff and polite. Order the chilaquiles.

I discerned this was a Popular Place to eat breakfast, as I waited patiently, buzzer in hand. There were people hanging out all over the place waiting for a table. The line did seem to move quickly, for our large party was seated after a 15-20 minute wait. Service was excellent, timely and attentive. The food was very good, and I would have expected it to be for the prices charged. I had the chorizo scrambled eggs because it was something that I don't make myself, and it was good! The servers were very attentive and kept the coffee flowing. I would return, although a bit reluctantly because of the prices for breakfast food.

I love the Broken Yolk in PB but this place is something else. Get ready to wait for an hour for your food no matter what you order.

Worst restaurant ever. Food is not appealing and nasty. I asked for jalapeño on the SIDE not inside my omelette they got my order wrong plus they put way too much jalapeño I can barely eat it there was no bacon which was suppose to be the main ingredient In my omelette . Never coming back to this chain restaurant

Chicken and waffles were good. The chipotle chicken sandwich was ok but very little chipotle flavor. The biscuits and gravy were...let's just say that they are not as good as my wife's.

Great breakfast/mimosa place! Service was a bit slow, but the staff was nice and food was yummy.

Always enjoy my breakfast here. Only reason for losing one star is that the service suffers when it's busy, which is often. I usually go when I know it won't be busy for that reason. But the food has always been great!

Good food. Large portions. Can get really noisy. Weekends be prepared to wait. The service is uniformly solid. Food is what you would expect of a coffee house. It's in a lovely shopping mall but parking can be problematic

Really good food, great customer service, great prices. One thing: the espresso machine was out. First time here and I'm a espresso lover so this was the only downfall. Ohhh wait one more negative: my kids got served and about 5-7min later, my eldest dtr and us the parents got served. Hmm wanted to eat more like a family. But Ok.

Honestly, I think Broken Yolk was better when it first opened. I forgot what I used to order, but my sister and I would share an omelette dish because it was huge when we'd go every so often! More recently, a few months or so ago, my family brought my cousins from Texas to this restaurant, and I think they were somewhat disappointed with the food. First, my cousin asked for grits, and they didn't have any. I guess it's uncommon for SoCal because my cousins are "southern", but I know of other restaurants in San Diego that have grits. The waitress looked so confused when he had asked for some, and she did not even know what they were. Common mistake though, I'm assuming. Then after ordering, our food came out. My cousin's hash browns were "old looking" as if they gave him used hash browns that someone else didn't finish--and he told them that--so he asked for fresh fruit instead. I hope it was fresh fruit. Other than this time, I haven't had any bad experiences. Technically, this wasn't "my" bad experience, but still. Customer service is always sub par for me and nothing great, just like their food. It's alright. Nothing special, and presentation isn't always the best. Today, I went for some brunch with my boyfriend and his mom. We were seated in this section with a television, but it wasn't the television that was loud at all, and it was the environment. It's unfortunate how IHOP and Broken Yolk are the only options in my area. That's why I like driving far!

Breakfast was pretty good this morning with my nephew. Between the 2 of us, we had waffles, pancakes, sausage, eggs, strawberries & whip cream! Service was great! Friendly staff and great prices! The only negative is that it smelled like burnt toast the entire time we were dining!

    (3)
  • Vincent B.

Gave this place a second try since management replied to my comment assuring me that the issues were fixed. None whatsoever. The place still smelled like a wet chicken coup and the smell of rancid dishes greeted us as we approached. Listen up staff. You cannot turn a small walk in closet into a restaurant. The bottom line is that you gave the franchise a bad name especially here in Eastlake

Breakfast was yummy and better than the mega-chain breakfast places in the area. Second time here and the service always seems a tad slow, but the food makes it worth the wait. I had the golden state Benedict plus a messy caramel latte, my honey had the chicken&waffles, and my little one had a kids hamburger and fries. The waffle was amazing! I wish I paid more attention and asked for the Siracha on the side for my Benedict. Still was pretty good though! Will come back especially to take advantage of the lunch specials and pet friendly patio!

I'm not really sure what the hype is all about but the food was ok and the service was not so great. We were seated within 10 mins of arriving and we sat in the patio area because we brought our dogs. The waiter was ok but he seemed like he just did not want to be at work at all and didn't seem very friendly either. We ordered our food and as we were waiting I asked if our dogs could have a water bowl. I seen a waiter pull a dog bowl from under a cabinet and went to go wash it. When he brought the bowl back it was as if it had not been washed at all with tons of particles floating around. It was pretty impossible for him not to notice but it just felt like they did not care. Our food arrived we ordered the biscuits and gravy and golden state Benedict. It was good but as we were eating I seen another waiter kneel down in front of the refrigerator ,in the patio section, looked around and took sips of his monster. Then put the still open can back in the refrigerator with the coffee creamers they give when you order coffee. He proceeded to do this twice as if people did not notice him. Paying the bill was bad as well. There where people waiting to be seated and people paying, people exiting, and people entering the restaurant crammed into the entrance. I understand it happens when it is busy but when I got to the register the cashier proceeded to speak to I'm guessing the manager or supervisor as there was a long line of people behind me waiting to pay, they did not seem like they were Ina hurry at all. The good news is that they offer military discount and their espresso drinks are goods.

First off our server Fernando is awesome. Very positive attitude which sets the mood for the costumer. I had two previous bad experiences but it seems like the management has better themselves. One which the manager contacted me via yelp concerning my experience at his establishment. Two stars off the back from one star for service recovery. Please have your employee Fernando to be acknowledge for his hard work and great costumer service, which earned your establishment it's third star from me. Hopefully my next visit will earn a 4th star. Food wise the food is always good here, Usually get the border check, but the other food is as good too.

I think it's more the management than the actual staff when I write this review... I used to go to this location years ago and didn't have complaints. I usually now go to the one downtown and love that one. I brought my boys to eat here at Eastlake on Monday when they had the day off of school what a waste of time and money!!! The restaurant was completely understaffed. Our poor waiter look like he was the only one on the side that we are sitting in. As I could see there are only two waitresses/ waiters on staff in the entire restaurant. The guy bringing our drinks was very nice. they finally took our order after we waited an eternity for him to come over to us. When the food finally got my sons waffle had a huge hair under it. The only good thing was the fiesta burrito that my other son ordered. We won't be coming back here

We just moved here and I was referred by my uncle to come here. When we 1st walked in we were not even greeted but "come this way". Took 5 minutes till someone came to our table for drinks, I asked for a straw and the guy never came back, I had to ask someone else. Took about 10 minutes till someone came to ask us for our order. When we got our plate (I got the California Omelette) my cheese looked like sliced cheese (was no where melted, I could pick up the whole inside with my fork) my sour cream was clotted. My egg looked and felt like a sponge. My fruit was dry ( as it was sitting out all day) the potatoes that were inside of the omelette had to have been frozen. My husband picked something simple: bacon, hash potatoes and over easy eggs and sourdough toast. The eggs were hard boiled (no YOLK), hash was crispy on the outside and raw in the middle, toast was not even toasted. Cold. I'm giving it "1" star because our waitress was very sweet, comped our meal and asked to give the cafe another shot. For $12+ a plate I was expecting a hot delicious meal. Disappointed.

Food is good depending on what you order. My main gripe is that they give coupons out, but they are never good for the weekends. I work Monday-Friday 6am-3pm like most people so I'll never be able to use the coupons they give out. They should be honored on any day you go especially since their hours are very limited as is. It's ridiculous. Once they change this policy I'll change my review.

The food is extremely bland. I ordered a waffle with eggs and bacon. The waffle was cold and the bacon was probably the worst I have ever had! How do you mess up bacon? I think the cook a big batch and then reheat it as orders come in. Also, I had 3 coffee refills and the waitress spilled all over the table each time. The last time she also ran out of coffee so she apologized for the fact that she ran out, no issue whatsoever with all the coffee dribbles all over the table.

We go here every once in a while.. They have a large selection of breakfast foods, mainly scrambles and omelets. The wait can be pretty long, especially in the weekends. The servers here are friendly, I have never had any issue here with customer service. Nice portions. The food here is good. But also a bit average.

    (3)
  • Ben M.

I've been here a handful of times. The food is good but staff need some serious lessons in customer service. There has been the occasional nice server but for the most part all of them act like the last thing they want to be doing is serving you. I understand that working in a restaurant is tough and I don't expect every single waiter I encounter to be overly friendly. I also don't expect to be treated like a burden, which the staff here frequently makes me feel like. The worst are the guys in red t-shirts who bring out the food. They'll be all jokes and smiles when they're all huddled in a group by the kitchen looking out at the floor and talking shit about the patrons (here's a tip, guys: indoor voices) but when it comes time to bring the food out they have frowns glued on their faces. Just today after the guy got done slamming our plates down in front of us I thanked him and got some kind of grunt followed by something in Spanish in response. The service I've received at other locations has been great. I don't know what it is about this particular location that makes the staff so grumpy all the time.

Broken Yolk fails on so many levels it's not even funny. Their chicken fried steak is actually chicken fried CHICKEN! Weird. I brought this up to them and told them that chicken fried steak is a cube steak (beef!!!) that's been breaded and fried. The person I told had a puzzled look on his face and said "Well, this is how we serve chicken fried steak here". Don't let the long lines fool you. The food is average at best and don't even get me started on the dense, chewy Nutella crepes. You're better off going to IHOP, McDonald's, or Jack in the Box.

We where a group of 9. It took 20 mins to get a table. Granted they where busy. It took another 5 or 10 mins to place our order. I got the California burrito. It's was pretty good, but I will try something else next time.

Well, I hate to bag on a place, but my experience here was crummy. I have eaten here twice, once recently and once about a year ago. It seems to have slid downhill a bit. The food was mediocre, our order was wrong and the busboys literally stopped at our table more than our waitress. The straw that broke the camel's back was the music selection. I just couldn't relax and start my weekend morning to the worst hits of the 90's ranging from Backstreet Boys to obscure Goo Goo Dolls singles. A poor dining experience I'll likely not repeat, especially at $10 an omelet.

I would've given this place 4 stars, but last time we got some pretty awful service. But other than that, I really like their food. I think it's made well and it's tasty. Their omelettes are good and they have a lot of options. I mean, who's ever heard of a stroganoff omelette? I personally like the jack of hearts because it has artichokes in it. Yum. One other plus? They use illy espresso. So, their mochas and lattes are usually good (last time they messed up on my mocha :( but I hadn't had a problem before). But service can be a bit hit or miss.

Where do I start. My family decided to go here for a special occasion. There were a total of 7 adults and two children. The first person to arrive indicated as such. When the hostess called our party, she tried to seat us a table for six and one child. When we told her the correct number of people in our party, she proceeded to blame us and said, "you said seven total". No lady...apparently everyone but you heard him correctly. Anyhow...they still proceeded to seat us at this table, telling us that when the next table cleared they'd add that table to ours. Instead of having us wait outside (which we said we'd do), they insisted we stay put...despite the fact that it left one of our guests STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MAJOR WALKWAY! Moreover, you could tell that the people at the table we were waiting for (a mother and 3 young children) felt rushed by the staff. 15 minutes later she and the kids were able to finish and leave, and they cleaned the table and joined it with ours. Next complaint. We waited ten minutes for someone to take our drink orders. After that...it was another 15 minutes to take our order. The food delivery was surprisingly fast...but perhaps they should have taken a bit more time. Not one single person in our entire party enjoyed their food. Okay...my niece did, but she was drinking formula from her bottle. The strawberries on my french toast were...salty. What the heck is that about? And I know it was the strawberries because I poured syrup on one half of my french toast and the strawberries on the other half. The syrup side was OK. My brother ordered the same and indicated that his also salty. The grilled cheese sandwich they served my daughter was soggy. My husband's patty melt was soggy and they didn't cook it to his instruction (he ordered well done...it was beet red in the middle). My mom ordered one of their quiches. She ate about a quarter of it and decided it was just not good enough to finish. Though she did say that the fruit on her plate was good. My sister-in-law had the California breakfast burrito and she didn't want to finish it either. The tortilla had been overcooked - in fact, she thinks it was microwaved - which, as you know, results in hardening. She was almost sawing the thing with her knife. Suffice it to say, we will not step foot in this place again.

I ate breakfast here with family on January 16. We chose to eat outdoors, so had to wait five or so minutes for a table, though the patio had only one other family eating out there. The outdoor patio is quite lovely and sheltered a bit from the wind; I also saw outdoor heaters which might come in handy on a cooler day. I ordered huevos rancheros, which arrived cold, as did my father's scrambled eggs. It is hard to keep eggs warm, I realize. The food was delicious (other than temperature) and we all cleaned our plates. The portion sizes were just perfect - I was full, not overstuffed, and didn't have to take food home. My iced tea never got refilled, and we rarely saw our waitress (who was friendly enough the few times we saw her). We had a long wait for our bill and had to eventually go pay at the front. Also, someone didn't get something they ordered. I would go back for the food, patio seating and good prices, but the service seriously needs an overhaul. Nice people though.

This place is great. I like the vibe of Eastlake. I'm really thinking about moving to this area : ). There were a lot of people waiting! As I approached though I noticed that there was plenty of seating outside! So.. I asked to be seated outside. Viola! I had the Eggs Benedict! -A toasted English muffin topped with Canadian bacon, two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Served with home fries, hash browns or fresh fruit. My first time having this and it was absolutely amazing. My friend had the Monte Cristo. -Open wide! Grilled ham and swiss cheese sandwiched between two extra think slices of French toast. Served with home fries, hash browns or fresh fruit. I tasted it. It was decent. It would be more enjoyable if it wasn't on French toast in my opinion. If you like the sweet taste than you're all set. Overall great experience. Waitress was a little slow. Forgetting straws and condiments, water. I'd definitely go back. Remember : Ask to be seated outside. Think outside the box. Enjoy!

Really!! I hate to say this. I don't like this place at all. The fruit plate is way over priced, it's fruit come on and seriously mostly melons. The breakfast was over cooked and not tasty at all. I have tried the eggs, monte cristo, waffles, biscuits and gravy to sandwiches and salads and none ended up being anything I finished. Plus, adding insult to injury all way over priced..It's a shame since I heard really good things about the original BYC and couldn't wait for it to open. I have returned several times thinking it was just me but it can't be "Just me" every time. My FAV breakfast joint is the OG Pancake House in Kearney Mesa but maybe after them I am really spoiled and have to high of expectations! Try it yourself if you haven't already and see what you think, maybe it is JUST ME!

It's sort of like a Mexican theme diner when it comes to the food, an ideal place to visit if you're not sensitive to time and don't mind the wait. The staff was nice and helpful, the food was OK, nothing really sticks out but they have OK Mimosa which would be a great way to end an all night-er when you have no hangover yet. There's a lot of space and located in a small strip mall, somehow parking isn't as convenient to find when it's a busy weekend.

I've been to this location for breakfast at least 5 times. Every time the portions where big and the food was very good. The service was also great every single time. It can get a little crowded, and the people walking in and out can take away from your breakfast experience. But then again you can't really hold that against The Broken Yolk, it's not their fault so many people want to have breakfast at their restaurant.

  • Amanda D.

Everyone is right. This place is not what everyone claims it to be. First of all, the host said it was gonna be like 20 mins. In my head I was thinking YEAH RIGHT!!! IT'S A SUNDAY FOR GODS SAKE!!! I was right, we ended up waiting 35 mins. The customer service was horrible!! All you see is the hosts talking to each other and not paying attention. I ordered the chicken and waffles with eggs and country gravy. Never again. It was ok but no wow factor. I'd rather drive 2 hours to go to Roscoe's. They're also the worst at refills. I drink a lot of water when I eat and I expect a refill when my glass has been empty for more than 15 mins. I really don't like this place. I've had better breakfast that wasn't included in a chain. Low key and local spots are way better than the broken yolk. So what if Adam Richman ate that disgusting omelette. Doesn't mean broken yolk is good. Go to the mission or brians 24 or perrys cafe. NOT THIS PLACE!

This is not like the location in PB. The food is overly salty or really bland. Not only is the food absolutely crap the service is by far horrible. I waited to pay my bill for 25 mins. 25 mins at the front register while the girl was chatting with another of her co-workers about what she was going to do for the day. Last time I checked I was a customer and you as a company are suppose to provide customer service instead of blatantly ignoring everyone. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

Well I took the family here today for lunch as we had received a gift card good for various restaurants and this was the closest. I have eaten here for breakfast and have eaten breakfast at the location in PB. The place was busy but was clearing fast from the lunch rush. The waitress arrived promptly and brought the drinks right away then the issues began. I ordered a medium burger and the wife ordered a patty melt. Got the kids nachos to share. It took approximately 25 to 30 minutes just to get the food while the gentleman who arrived at the table next to us after we had already ordered and were waiting for our food ordered and was served before ours arrived. When asked, the waitress said it was busy, I 'll give them that, and burgers take a while to cook. Now I am by no means a whizz at the BBQ but could have whipped up a medium burger in half the time plus I saw our entire order sitting under the heat lamps for 10 to 15 minutes or so. Now onto the food. Well the food was in one word bland, bland bland although the burger was done medium as I ordered. The nachos were like eating little triangular pieces of cardboard with some cheese sauce coating them. The guacamole that accompanied the nachos was the most tasteless quacamole I have ever had. So will I return for lunch, no way. By the way the meal including dirinks and the mentioned food came to about 43 and change which makes me glad it was a gift card but sad since a better meal had been waiting out there somewhere. Now some positives. The ambiance is nice with a mediteranean style and color scheme and the place was relatively clean and well kept. Guess they spend more on the upkeep then improving the menu. So my advice is save your money and head to another eatery.

A retired friend and I had breakfast there. Line was very short, greeter had us at a table in minutes. Waiter came right by with the menu, explaining some breakfast options. Commented many choices were enough for two people. We made a shared selection and placed our order. Coffee was on the table after the waiter gave the kitchen our order. We waited a reasonable amount of time, meal was delivered with an extra plate. Waiter was right, enough for the two of us. Everything was cooked perfectly, hot and ready to eat, plates, silverware, cups, spotless clean as was our table. Waiter came by several times to refill coffee. Hint: Might be easier to leave a pot when two are drinking coffee. We had a good breakfast and will be back. Sad to say many customers will try to find something wrong with their selection, just the way their are. Then they post bad reviews so they can feel they did their job. Easy to tell the posting rookies, they haven't got a clue how to post a quality review. Don't let these fools scare you away from having a good meal here.

Don't come here if you're in any sort of rush or have somewhere to be. The service is always really slow and we're usually sitting for about 40 mins before our food comes. I come here for the weekday lunch special: Monday-Wednesday Noon-3pm your bill is 50% off. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't come. The food is okay, not amazing.

The service was horrible. Took a while to get our order. The food wasn't that good and it was pricy. It is a good alternate to the IHOP down the street or Denny's, but there are better alternatives in Chula Vista.

Seating arrangement is too close, can't move to get out of your seat. I think the restaurant tries to fit as many people as they can which makes it too crowded tht you can't walk thru aisles. Other than that, the food's cool.

I really like this place. Everyone so nice & friendly. The food is yummy! Of course I love the gluten free pancakes. Maybe someday they will make a waffle, I wonder if I can request? Back to the food, it's yummy! You can watch sports too, cause they always have games on. For you Chargers fans they wear jerseys during football season!

Solid breakfast food. I had a breakfast burrito, yummy, the wife had a two egg breakfast, over easy, done as ordered, some chiles toreados (grilled to perfection, salted and peppered with a squeeze of lime), hash browns were slightly dry but nice and crispy (not greasy as some have reported). The service was businesslike, quick and efficient. Could it have been warmer, friendlier? Probably. But seriously, we're here for food, not conversation with the wait staff. We will definitely be back for some local South Bay breakfast in the future.

I don't see what the hype of this place is. I came and got a mimosa, it was all champagne I couldn't taste any orange juice. Some might like that, personally if I order a mimosa I want orange juice with my champagne. Then the meal came, I got french toast with bacon, it was the most bland french toast I have ever eaten, the bacon wasn't good. My husband got the Tony G's and he is the kind that will eat anything and even he said he doesn't see why everyone likes this place. So we spent over $50 on food that I didn't finish and everyone else wasn't crazy about. The waitress never asked how we liked our food even though 2 of the plates weren't hardly touched. My toddler son was super fussy but she took forever to bring us our check. I was just overall very displeased with our visit.

Came across a $17 groupon voucher for $30 worth of food/drinks. Decided to finally try out this place and came for brunch on a Thursday. The place was packed and busy but we were seated right away. We ordered the Western eggs benedict and the golden state eggs benedict, both with hash brown. They were average, nothing too special about it. My only complain I guess is that they only gave me one strip of bacon for a $11+ plate, but my partner got a decent amount of turkey with his eggs benedict. Drinks are expensive! I ordered an iced mocha and it cost $4.35 and that's not even bottomless. Overall, this place is ok. Their prices are a bit higher but the location is convenient since it surrounded by other stores and right next to Sprouts. I don't think I'd eat here again without a voucher though.

The groupon deal lessens the sting of slightly overpriced food....but everyday breakfast specials between 0700-0900 at $5.49 bumps up the rating. Their portions are huge so you can really make two meals out of one. The $11 burger is worth it as it is huge and tasty. The chilaquiles are so-so and a bit overpriced. Would go back for breakfast specials.

They just need to be better staffed!! It ALWAYS takes forever to get service and when you finally do get service they're rushed and get orders wrong or in a bad mood. Our server was friendly today but he was the ONLY server. We love the food here so we keep coming back, plus is close to our home, but seriously.. It turns out into a not so great experience every time. You can't make hungry people wait. Lol ps. I just have to say I ordered my eggs poached medium...they were as runny as they get.

I've been here multiple times and the food is tasty. The service is so so. I went again today, seated right away but the waitress didn't come to help us for a good while. It wasn't busy. I ordered a sandwich, soup and salad. Also got a champagne and cranberry. The drinks came right away, there big and worth the money. There was a strawberry garish, however, that was totally gross. Way past type, already deteriorating lol. The food came quick and was good. The soup was the least tastiest thing. The sandwich and salad were very rich in flavor. My boyfriend got the Ruben and that was tasty as well. Overall, good experience, will continue coming.

The "border check" is a must! The chorizo, melted cheese, salsa, guac, and jalepeno omelette is insanely good. It is hard for me to try other items. The omelette is huge...no problem if you ask to split it; they bring the whole dish (sides as well) already evenly split on separate plates. The place usually has a wait, but it isn't their fault. There is literally only 2 large breakfast facilities in this heavy populated area. This is by far the better of the two (IHOP is the other). Get there at the right time and you're seated quickly. Bottom line, my family likes it. Quick, breakfast joint service with a mission to serve you well. I'll keep coming.

Broken Yolk is okay in my opinion, the food is ehh okay but not great. There are a lot more better breakfast/brunch places out here in San Diego but our experience wasn't bad we got seated right away and our waiter was really nice despite how busy it was, plus they honor that 10% off your check for yelpers so that's cool

The best thing I can recommend, based on my one sole visit, is on the South of the Border Menu: The Border Benedict. Amazing, especially for my spicy food fans. Unlike any other eggs benedict dish I've ever had. The chicken and waffles dish is decent too. It's like, boneless chicken tenders and Belgian waffles. Delicious, but it's not a list-topper on my "chicken and waffles" list. Gotta give props to th hot sauce on the table: Hot Licks! Apparently a local favorite. Our first time trying it, and we used up pretty much the whole bottle. We liked the amazingly fast and accurate service. Seriously. We could tell that they were extremely busy, with many families ordering many things at once, but they got our order completely on the mark, minus toppings and all. And we got seated extremely quickly. They were also quick to refill coffee and water. The employees are extremely friendly and willing to deal with your requests. The serving sizes are generous. Bottom line: Highly recommended for a diner-style breakfast/brunch, with some Mexican flair. It may be called the "Broken Yolk," but their eggs are on point!

Its best to get here early in the morning as the place fills up by mid morning and a 25 min to 30 min wait builds up. The food is good and relatively well portioned ... I love the Moms Omelet. I give three stars and not 4 only because of the wait and noise level ... it gets pretty loud inside with all the conversations going on. Also, wnjoy a 10% discount when you check in on Yelp ;-)

So my family has eaten here several times and frequently we get our food to go. I was planning on giving this place a 3 because its good and average and is what it is.... But this last time I got their egg burger and the egg was over medium vice fried hard! a little skeptical at first, but this turned out to be the best burger I have had in along time. Fantastic!

Really disappointed with my visit here. The customer service is so slow. Incredibly slow. It took over 10 mins to get seated. Another 10-15 mins to get our order taken. There was also a line to pay which took another 5 mins. Also the bathrooms were a dump! They smelled bad and just dirty/ garbage around both stalls. The good tasted good though. Great breakfast selection. I enjoyed my "no name" omelette. Great fruit dish as a side, really fresh. Decently priced. Loved that they have a dog friendly patio. Probably not coming back to this location.

Stopped by for breakfast on a Sunday morning, 10 minute wait time, friendly greeter and extremely attentive server. Ordered a Spinach Feta Wrap that was delicious and served quick with a side of fruit! Highly recommend this place definitely beats fast food chains Denny's and IHOP. The quality of food at the broken yolk is none like other, home style!

Good food, Service could have been better but its a hit and miss with these types of places. But never disappointing when it comes to your grub. Its unfortunately always very packed and always a wait on the day that we do decide to go which is on a Sunday for brunch. Outside seating is available but not recommended because you hear everyones conversation so its very loud.

The food isn't bad here at all--it's comparable to other breakfast/brunch places. The omelette portions are huge and can be shared between two people. The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is that service is really slow. It took about ten minutes for our server to come back to our table to take our orders and he didn't come back to refill our water. Our server was really nice, but he was busy. This restaurant either needs to increase their staff or efficiently utilize their current staff.

Visited on Sunday at 1230. Hostess Greeted and seated immediately with a party of 5. Busy and filled to capacity. Server Lisi was very outgoing and fun. Really got beverages and order done very quickly. Short wait time considering crowd. We had two different eggs Benedict's original and California. They were great light and airy with tasty hollandaise. Had the hash browns no complaints there. 3 omelettes filled out the order. The other diners raved about the omlettes and how fresh and we'll prepared They were. They all had sides of fruit. Our service was very good and Lisi made it very fun. We will return and recommend if your nearby.

7-9 AM specials are outstanding. Went here for my wife's birthday breakfast and really enjoyed the food. The Nutella crepes were so sweet and delicious, perfect for sharing with someone. I would come here again, especially if there is another Groupon.

The food is ok. A bit overpriced for breakfast though. There is always a wait on the weekends and service is not all that great, compared to the PB location. We stopped going here after the hostess opens the door as we were walking with her, the door hit my wife's toe, ripping her toenail back. All the lady had to say was "oops". No appology, nothing. We asked for the manager to come over with a first aid kit for a bandage for her bleeding toe but she came with a wad of napkins and still no appology. We looked at her and decided we should go elsewhere to get her toe taken care of. To hell with this place.

What can I say about Broken Yolk? It just really isn't the place for me. So, the other day, I get a message from the business owner of the Eastlake branch, for which I have such disdain for. He apologized for my sub-par experience and offered a comp'd meal if I would give their establishment another chance. Admittedly, I felt a bit awkward, essentially getting a free meal for an angry rant, but I decided to check the place out with my SO since it had been 7 years since I had last gone. As such, I feel obligated to give a very details follow up review. We arrived at about 1pm on a Saturday (I deliberately chose a later time to avoid the potential crowd) and found the place to be relatively empty. We were seated promptly and, if nothing else, our waitress Veronica was very sweet and accomodating! Our waters came right away and our drink orders were taken soon after. Admittedly, I was quite shocked that an Arnold Palmer cost about $4.50, but the cup that it came in was *gigantic*. I guess the size justified the price? It was still quite massive though... When it came to our meals, my wife ordered a Monte Cristo and I ordered a Sun-Up Breakfast Sandwich. Our meals arrived in good time and were thankfully hot! (Though honestly, I shouldn't be relieved for something as basic as that.) We both had ordered "home fries" with our meal and didn't expect to get scalloped potatoes. (Totally our bad on this, we didn't bother to figure out what "home fries" meant for this establishment.) They weren't bad, but they were somewhat soggy/undercooked. I kinda wished they were a bit more crispy. I wound up drenching mine in ketchup while my honey went the salt route. As for the sandwiches, we traded our halves so that we could try eachother's selection. The Monte Cristo was okay. My favorite version of this is the one you can get at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland, where it's properly (read: deliciously unhealthy) deep fried and comes with fruit perserves to dip it into. The BY version is ham and swiss between two slices of grilled french toast. The ham was okay, but the swiss was pretty stingy and barely visible on my half of the sandwich. The fruit perserves that I come to expect are in the form of jelly spreads that are on the table. Syrup is also provided on the table, and I used that to enhance the experience. Honestly, it was okay, but *just* okay. Nothing remarkable to note. The Sun-Up Breakfast Sandwich had some well made, albiet bland eggs. The bacon was cooked well, but the taste of American cheese kind of drowned out the flavor of the sandwich all together. Once again, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. Overall, the whole food experience itself warrents about 2-stars. It's okay, but I have definitely cooked better. It's on about the same level as a Denny's (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but twice the price. It gets a 3-star though because the servce was prompt and friendly. I didn't have a bad experience this time, but I don't know that I'll go back again unless someone is offering to foot the bill.

Yum yum yum...so I was craving a mimosa and breakfast. This place has mimosas with breakfast. We had to wait 25 minutes to be seated but once we were seated the server got me my mimosa and took our orders and my food was on my table within 5 minutes. I ordered to border benedict. Soooo good, I recommend. I checked in on Yelp and got 10% off my meal so I also saved money eating here. Their machine that takes payment wasn't working properly so that was another 25 minute wait.... or that's what it felt like. But I will come again, very soon.

We went on Saturday morning and it was busy. The service was disappointing, the lady was friendly and took our order but never came back to check if anything was needed; I order extra has browns from the bus boy and they were never served, so I ate my daughters. The waitress only came back to collect our money. I wouldn't go back. In fact Denny's at eastlake is way better and cleaner !

We love to go to broken yolk for breakfast and 9 times out of 10 have a great experience. They always have a wait but we haven't waited for more than 20 min. When we are seated, we are always treated warmly and get our food quick! The portions are huge enough to share and they always have coupons which is a plus! One think good is they have a variety from American, Spanish and somewhat healthy breakfasts. I definitely would recommend Broken Yolk to anyone that wants great breakfast with great service.

I wanted to update my review. I decided to try the place again over a year later because I was craving some Eggs Benedict. Absolutely wonderful service and phenomenal food! We got seated pretty quickly even though they were busy, very kind waiter, timely arrival of food and it was DELICIOUS! Best meal I had in ages. So glad I tried it again!

  • Ana N.

I need to update my review for two reasons: The first is that the service has improved somewhat and the waitress I get when I sit outside is a lovely person and very on top of everything. The second reason is to ding it on its food. Why? I asked for fruit for my side this morning, I asked for watermelon only. Got my watermelon. Took a bite and it tasted off, like a smoker had chopped it up. I thought I was imagining it so I took a bit of another piece and it tasted like stale cigarette. My dad tasted it because he didn't believe me and agreed. Not only that you could tell it wasn't fresh, it was from yesterday. Adiós Broken Yolk, I like to live on the edge and do crazy things, but eating food that may give me food poisoning isn't one of them. All the best and I hope you improve.

I really enjoy having breakfast here and love their mimosas. I've only tried their border benedict and I really like it as I've had it every time I've came here. Very original breakfast entrée they I recommend everyone to try at least once! My reason for 4 stars is because they suck at taking payment. They don't do it like normal restaurants where they take your card and come back with the check to sign off. You literally have to wait in line to pay. They need to change that asap since they get so busy and waiting in line is no fun.

Went here a couple days ago with my kids. It was busy but we were seated right when we got there. It took forever to get drinks ordered and a lot longer to place our order. The food took about 30-45min for simple breakfast food (pancakes, bacon, toast, omelette) the kids like their pancakes because it covered in syrup, but I ordered the ranchero omelette and it was horrible. The egg mixture for the omelette was over cooked and it has way to much inside. Way to much green onion and potatoes. It lacked flavor and really was not worth it. Never going back here.

Went out to eat with my mom it was packed so I thought this must be really great food. I heard great things about this place. First of all the waiter took FOREVER just for water, he never checked on us, we waited an hour for our food only for fransisco to drop it off and leave not asking if we need anything else, I had no sauce for my chicken I had to flag him down for sauce. He seemed in a rush like not trying to wait for mine or my mothers answer. We kept calling him over for refills he never once checked on us on his own.I believe he was a manager or maybe not but he seemed visibly overwhelmed. The chicken taste like rubber not crispy at all , but like something u cook at home. I'm just disappointed I thought this place would be as great as I was told. 2 stars for the awesome waffles though. Thats about it.

Broken yolk cafe is the most over rated over priced place on the face of the earth...we were told 10-15 min to be seated (ok cool...nice day...whatevers) we actually waited 30 mins+ to be seated only to have to wait another 15 mins before I got up to get someone to take our drink order....food arrived 26 min late and cold...will not return, will not refer, do not recommend...

Depending on the servicer the service can be Awesome or mediocer. Food is almost average. Portion size is excellent. Large variety on menu, plate appearance is very nice. It would be nice if the fruit was peeled and cut into bite sized pieces instead of 1/4 of an orange or cantaloupe. It would be nice if the restrooms got cleaned more often, gross.

Eh... I mean not bad food... just normal. It's too crowded and the hype doesn't match the actual experience.

  • Joanna A.

Everyone has always raved about the Broken Yolk in PB so I was very excited to find out there was one in Eastlake. It seemed crowded but the wait time to be seated was only 10-15 minutes. I liked the decor, and the atmosphere. The food was pretty good. I especially liked the nachos. The reason for just 3 stars is the service. It took the waiter a while to come take our drink order. After the food came it was hard to find a waiter for refills, napkins and things like that. Finally someone dropped off a check, but it was once again hard to get someone's attention for a to go box. Maybe it was just an off day...

bought a groupon for this location. We had eaten there in the past and found it to be ok, however after this trip will advise anyone considering it to pass it up and go to denny's. ( I have only been to Denny's once, but I would go there before returning to BY) We were seated promptly having arrived after 2pm, the place was sparsely occupied. It was more than 10 mins before the busboy came by and asked for our drink order. at least another 10 mins before the waitress came to take our order. 15 more mins passed, remember that the place was not busy, 6 more tables occupied, our food was served. I sent mine back, the potatoes were black and the eggs overcooked. 10 more mins and my order was replaced. Acceptable this time, except the muffin was stale, so hard that I could have pounded a nail with it, my son's was the same way. The waitress did not pass by again, you know what kind of a tip she got. Not a pleasant experience, didn't let it spoil the rest of the beautiful San Diego day, top down and music up.

The food at this location is excellent, there is no doubt about that, but the service is sure to leave a sour taste in your mouth. I walk out very full but also very angry. I understand the location is busy, but that is no excuse for poor customer service EVERY TIME I've gone in (about 4-5 times). I've been seated had a menu thrown in my face immediately asked if I was ready to order and then when I said "not yet, sorry" The waitress took about 15 minutes to come back and take my order. after I was about a third of the way done with my meal on a specific occasion the waitress threw down my receipt and said "Have a nice day you can take care of that at the front counter." I still wanted to order refills of OJ! Also, I BEG YOU TO NOT ORDER ANYTHING with "FRESH FRUIT" It's gross to come up on a brown strawberry! (FYI those are also in their mimosas) The Management is awful, all managers look like they have a stick up the wazoo. please don't expect a smile from anyone but a bus boy. Bus boys there seem to be the only nice ones, sad because they only refill your water and clean your table. Tip the bus boys not the crappy waiters!

  • Benjamin W.

This place is hype. It's average at best. NOTHING was great. It's pretty overpriced, too long of a wait, and not really any better than Coco's. I paid $60 for three entrees and a sorry ass muffin. Nothing involved steak, lobster or alcohol. Really $60? Enough said. Go if you want to eat somewhere where some idiot with the palette of a retarded donkey, said the food was great. I don't care how many people I like said this food was good. I was hungover and got in a fight the night before: I would have been happy with cold grits and old sausage. This place did not exceed my expectations, and they were low to begin with. IF I EVER come back here, it will be for the food challenge (12 egg omelette ro whatever it is). Nothing else is worth the trip, do yourself a favor and go up the road.

  • Oliver O.

This is based off the 4 times that i have been here. Service is really bad. Even though it is busy, the waitress hands you the menu and immediately asks if you already know what you want. We asked her for a few minutes and it took her 15 minutes to come back and ask us. We got our breakfast within 15 minutes and couldnt get anyone to get us some juice or water. This place has been disappointing and I would drive to the Downtown location for better service.

  • Mary S.

I just got back from taking my daughter to breakfast at the broken yolk in chula vista. The only good thing I have to say about the place was that our waitress was very nice. I ordered a breakfast sandwich which was supposed to be ham, eggs, and cheese on toast with hash browns. One problem, they forgot the eggs. Once I could find our waitress again she took it back to the kitchen and 5 minutes latter it came back with a scrambled egg laid on top of the same(by now cold) food. The bread was soggy and the ham, cheese and hash browns cold. If this wasn't bad enough, when I went to pay the bill in the front and told them what had happened, both the cashier and hostess gave me this look like well what do you want me to do about it. The place was busy, it was not cheep and it seems like the kitchen staff and the management just don't care about the customer

Breakfast is me and my hubby's favorite meal. Since moving to San Diego, we've been on the the search to find "our place." We're still on the search....Broken Yolk is ok, nothing spectacular and a little overpriced. I ordered the Biscuits with Country Gravy, hash browns and sausage. Everything was mediocre. We could have gone to Denny's and there wouldn't have been a difference, except in price. Will not be back.

This is straight out from curiosity & temptation that I concluded, hey, why don't I experiment my appetite at the Broken Yolk Cafe. Well this surely has a calming, bright atmosphere filled with the various flags representing the countries particularly playing for the World Cup. So inside felt welcoming. I decided to get Eggs Benedict, due to its starred mark, with home fries. Throughout my time service was, ehh, so-so; my waitress was nice, but the server showed poor courtesy and presentation of placing my nicely-portioned plate on my table. I dug onto the entree, and really, I was convinced that I'm just not an Eggs Benedict person....it's shabby, & tasted quite better when you smothered it with the yolk. But I think this dish was too sweet from its Canadian bacon, & thus I tried enhancing the flavor with more yolk and Tabasco. Plus, I was super disappointed with the home fries; they were just not cooked enough, leaving off with still the semi-raw texture of the potatoes--so don't get the home fries. I certainly risked spending approximately $10, exiting the place satisfied only by filling my tummy rather than experience...For sure other breakfast-emphasized restaurants are way much better than this.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I came here for breakfast with 2 friends. It was busy which is usually a good sign, the staff greeted us as soon as we entered and we were quickly seated, despite being fairly busy. My first impression was wow, even though it's busy it doesn't feel crowded, which is always a good thing, nothing worse than feeling as though you are sharing your meal and worse yet your conversation with strangers. The menu was big but not complicated, this is definitely a place to go where everyone can get what they want for breakfast. We all had the eggs benidict , and they were pretty solid, everything was in the proper proportions, not too much muffin or too much holendays sauce. the sauce though while tasting good was gritty like it had been made from a mix. The Canadian bacon was the star of the dish by far, crispy from being cooked on the griddle yet moist and tender and flavorful, the hash browns were amazingly crispy, but slightly greasy. Overall I would likely be back if I was in the area again, my one gripe was the sauce not being made from scratch for $10 it really should be! This is a pretty decent place for breakfast, between the good service good atmosphere, and the menu variety I would recommend this place.

Why didn't I just go to MacDonalds instead? So my wife, father and I went to the Broken Yolk Cafe out in Chula Vista on a Sat. morning. The place was packed, though we did get seated quickly which happened to be the only nice part of the whole experience. The omlette we ordered was bland, I had to ask multiple times for my muffin, which didn't taste very good either, and our server showed up maybe every 15 minutes or so. I told her my potatoes were undercooked which she offered to replace, but by that time I just wanted to leave. I was expecting the manager to come out and talk with us about our exp., but they just waved us off. Evidently good customer service is not in these people's vocabulary. Do yourself a favor, and do not bother going here. Suppposedly the PB location is much better, but that wouldn't take very much.

This was the first BYC I went to and I think my expectations were too high. I guess it's also the Eastlake Hype (another Breakfast place other than IHOP where you won't need the freeway?)... I first went here when they were new and they were okay.. I come here every now and then when I want to catch up with a friend over breakfast. I'm fond of their California (Omelette) but then again, it has bacon and who wouldn't order it? I think their biscuit is dry. I keep trying it, hoping for the best, but always get disappointed. Their service is slow.. One time they led me and my friend to a table that only had one chair ("table for 2? Ohkay, here's your table, play musical chairs"..wonderful). Also if they would just refill my water before it empties so I won't have to fill stupid raising my hand like I'm in class asking for a water refill, I'd probably think about raising (not lowering) my tip. The portions are big so I guess that's why the servers forget about you. Would I recommend this place (specifically this location) to out of towners? Probably not.. only if they were really craving bacon in their eggs? Maybe.

I went for lunch, and if I ever go again, I will stick with breakfast. The avocado turkey wrap I ordered did not come with avocado in it!! I asked the waiter if he could get some avocado in there, and he brought it back to the kitchen. It took a long while for it to come back out. When it came back, the side of fruit was missing so I had to ask for that back too! Finally we got to eat, and it was good, but not impressive enough to make up for the wait. We also never got any drinks refilled. I thought everyone working there was nice and friendly, but still, the service was poor.

. We went a while back and it was awful, awful service, awful food. I ordered chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy and got hollandaise sauce instead of gravy. Gross.... Then they wouldn't fix it, I was told by our waitress that the cook messed up the gravy, guess he got them mixed together somehow and that was that. So imagine country gravy mixed with hollandaise sauce, not good. The waitress was way overwhelmed even though they seemed to have food runners, the busser took better care of us then our waitress. Everyone in our party had some serious complaint about their food, I only remember mine though, but we were definitely not happy campers. Compared to the great service and good food you get in PB it was like a totally different restaurant, they should change the name so people aren't put off on going to the PB location based on their crappy experiencing in East Lake

'Meh. I've experienced better' definitely sums it up. The location is very nice and it is always pretty full. The menu is large and has a wide selection. The food however, is disappointing. I ordered The California Breakfast Burrito plate off of the 'South of the Border' menu. The Burrito was definitely tasty. Filled with lots of egg, hashed browns, bacon, cheese, and avocado slices. While a little greasy, mainly due to the cheese, the burrito is very good and very large. It is served split into two parts. The beans and rice that accompany the burrito are very bad. The beans are most definitely canned refried beans. I couldn't even eat the rice because I'm not a big fan of having Rice-A-Roni's Rice Pilaf for breakfast. I also had a side of bacon, and that was cooked just right. I see lots of negative reviews about all of the Broken Yolk Cafes. The menu is good, but perhaps it's time they rethink the quality of the food they serve.

While the food itself was fine the service was not exactly steller. The waitress never came to check on us while we were eating and took forever to get us our check. We actually had to flag her down to get refills and to go containers. Luckily we had a 50% coupon so that made up for the bad service. If we go back again i doubt it will be to this location. While I dont want to put the waitress on blast we were there on April 17th around 12:30ish and it was not that busy at all. Lots of wait people hanging around the bar area.

One of my favorite breakfast spots! I'm not a big breakfast water, but when I have a craving, this is my spot! I prefer the one in Eastlake than the one in PB because parking isn't an issue, but the food is still great.

Western egg's Benedict is my go-to dish. I always enjoy having my breakfast here. With a nice glass of orange juice its a great place to get your day started. I've never been disappointed at any of the Broken Yolks in the San Diego area.

I will never come here again. They sat us right next to the kitchen and we could hear all this banging from the other side. It was really annoying and distracting. Then once we got our food, they gave my friend chilaquiles with chicken. She's a vegetarian!! Nowhere in the order did she say she wanted chicken..at all! The food was ok, nothing great. No flavor, no pizazz. Nothing. And it's so damn cold in there. Not comfortable at all. Don't waste your time.

Broken Yolk has it's pluses, I'll admit. A La Cimballi serving Illy cafe is rare around here. A breakfast joint with bar seating is just as hard to find in East Chula. The huge LCD TVs are a bit much for a breakfast / lunchery. Do we really need television that often? I tried the Waffles and Bacon this time around. This classic tasted better than my last meal here. But nothing spectacular. As long as you come into the Broken Yolk with no appointive expectations, then you cannot become disappointed. Great rule of wrist. The service measured up fine. The food didn't take long at all. The whole restaurant certainly looks well kept. But really, if my entire motivation to come here is summed up in Illy coffee, I'd rather drive to SD.

I have been here several times, and would have rated it an average 3 stars... UNTIL.. i had the multi-grain chocolate chip pancakes! Absolutely delicious! These pancakes beat out Aunt Emma's & Family House of Pancakes hands down. They are the perfect texture and excite the taste buds, but beware for this tastes like desert for breakfast. So if you end up eating here, try the pancakes. I will have to try the waffles next time. Two notably tasty meals include the huevos rancheros and the western benedict which is topped with avocado. I substituted tomato instead of bacon though. Most of the omelets are pretty good, but nothing notable. I am big on substituting ingredients. Don't be afraid to ask for different kinds of cheeses or half&half. I recommend doing half feta & whatever other cheese you prefer. Another healthy plus is you can choose your sides. So if you're looking to get full, but not break the calorie/fat bank.. go with healthier sides like fresh fruit with sourdough toast. It will be well worth it considering the main meal portions are large. The overall atmosphere is very nice and family-friendly.

First time @ broken yolk and I must say that it was much better than I expected! I was expecting over priced entrees with small pofrtions but it was the opposite. We got huge plates, great service & good atmosphere.

In the several times we have eaten at this location, the service has been almost not existent. We generally wait up to 10 minutes before we get offered a drink order, and the waitress only comes by after we ask for them to come over. Today's excuse was the worst. The lack of staff made us have to wait too long to even be seated, yet there was almost no one in the restaurant. After being seated, had to ask for a waitress after 20 minutes of waiting. Their excuse was they thought we wanted to wait, and the waitresses excuse was she wasn't working yet. The food is OK, nothing exceptional. Besides lack of options, I'd recommend NOT eating here. I do not support people or restaurants that do not value each and every customer that walks in there door. Yelp should really have a NO STAR review for them.

Go when it's SLOW. Ok so this place has been on Man Vs. Food and many locals enjoy it, what could be bad you say? Well I remember one experience when it was just myself, my brother and my nephew. We were told to wait about 10 minutes before they could seat us. I should not had believed the hostess as there were maybe 20+ people waiting outside to be seated, but hey we figured, we're a small party, we'll get in with not much fuss. After THIRTY minutes we left and just headed to McD's instead. Pros: - Inexpensive Cons: - All Hype - Wait staff can be unattentive - When it's busy, don't bother.

Iron Man 2 is coming out tomorrow so what better way to celebrate than take on the Iron Man omelet challenge at the Broken Yolk Cafe? Me and 3 other friends manned up and went to conquer this beast of an omelet. We didn't know of the horrors we were about to face. The omelet itself is made of a dozen eggs, mushrooms, onions, cheese, and some chili on top. You'd think that with all that the thing would have some flavor to it, but there wasn't and the little flavor it did have was no bueno. I'm not even saying that it got bad as it went on, it was bad from the first bite and progressively got worse and worse. The side of homefries weren't any better either. Absolutely no flavor. And the two biscuits? Like trying to eat 2 balls of flour that's been sitting out all day. I might seem salty because none of us finished it, but it was honestly horrible. I was about a fourth of the way left with a little over 20 minutes to go when I decided that it was just too nasty to go on. We sucked it up, surrendered out $25, and left in shame. This was a terrible idea. Maybe I'm being unfair and this omelet was supposed to be void of any good flavor, I don't know. But my cousin who came with us didn't finish his breakfast either saying "These are some of the worst beans ever." And he's pretty sharp with food. If I ever do go back I'll try something different and maybe can add a star or two. But as it stands now, the best thing about the place was the fake mustache dispenser in the front.

I went here on Sunday for brunch on my birthday. I was very excited, because I've heard good things (about other locations). The service was HORRIBLE (I gave them a break, because according to the manager 3 people called in). However, I think there is a serious lack of management here. Our server spent a lot of time in the kitchen flirting, and was at the Spanish speaking table 10x more then she was at ours. My husband's coffee sat empty for about 10 minutes, before that he coudlnt drink it because there was no creamer, and we couldn't even get anyone's attention to fill it. My drink didn;t even come with a straw, and the man who delivered our drinks originally was RUDE. The food was beyond mediocre... I got a burger and onion rings since by the time our order was taken it was noon. The burger was meh, the onion rings were AWEFUL, worse than burger king. The PICKLE was bad! HOW you mess up a pickle is beyond me.... the fries were gross... the Ore Ida frozen ones I make at home are better. This place was really disappointing. It put a bad vibe on my whole birthday, especially since it gave everyone really bad gas. Next time I'm just going to IHop like normal, or Fridays if we are getting lunch. This location is going to fail miserably if something does not turn around here. I give credit where it is due, check my other reviews, I am understanding, but this was 100% unacceptable.

I havent been to the original so no judgments on that one but this location is nothing special. Positives: Large selection. Decent portions. Outside seating during the warmer months. Negatives: Crowd. Average at best and often disappointing service. Food isn't very good. I have been here a couple times now and have been seriously unimpressed. The food is almost bland which is surprising. There are plenty of other places to go and I pass whenever it is suggested.

This is a good place, however, it is VERY busy and always a wait. I would call ahead for seating and avoid the long waits. Food was great for my first time. I would do something else for the way you have to pay though, they have you wait in line to pay while there is another line of people waiting to get put on the list for seating.

Well I mean for all the hype I didn't see much difference between here and Dennys. Matter of fact, I'll save u the hassle; go to Dennys. Service was very polite and welcoming, food was just whatever. I dunno if the OJ has no refills but I wish I was asked if I wanted a water. Buuuut, she was busy and still very polite.

It was pretty disappointing. Service was sub par. They were friendly enough just very in attentive. We sat ordered, before another couple but they ate and got their check before we got a meal. Another party of 7_8 were served before us although they sat down after we did. The food though not bad was not a WOW experience.

If you want breakfast and are tired of the usual IHOP and Denny's, I'd pick Broken Yolk. I always get the country fried steak with rice pilaf instead of eggs (sometimes the waitresses say they can't do it, but you just have to let them know you've done it before). It's a good amount, just enough to finish, but also enough to fill you up. The service can be slow because they get really busy, but you can't really blame them. The food always comes out pretty fast considering how busy they get. It's a good breakfast place, especially if you have a usual meal that you know won't disappoint.

I'm training for their "iron man" special. It's an omelet made with 12 eggs, mushrooms, onions, cheese, chili. They put it on one side of a 15" pizza pan and have home fries and 2 biscuits on the other. If you're looking for breakfast food this is a good place to go, and a better alternative to other breakfast restaurant chains. Here is the menu items that I've eaten and recommend: the Monte Cristo, Chicken fried steak, and their Rancher Omelet. The outdoor seating under their red canopy is nice on a warm day. I recommend eating outdoor. Most meals will cost anywhere between $10-$15 per person. But they do have a frequent user card.

Food is good! typical chain restaurant there usually busy and wait is typically 15-20 minutes. HUGE PORTIONS.Average customer service. nothing special. For breakfast I suggest Toby's 19th Hole!!!

  • Tifany M.

slightly below average. Service is either horrible or okay. I usually have to wave my arms in the air to get a waitress' attention, bc they usually don't notice when you're trying to make eye contact with them or that raising finger/flicking wrist motion patrons tend to do at a restaurant. Food is alright. I've gotten omelets, eggs florentine, eggs benedict & some other benedict here w turkey & avocado. All were fine, not exciting, but not bad either BUT definitely better than breakfast restaurant chains. Home fries & hash browns were equally average, more on the greasy side (especially the hash browns). Both taste better if you ask them to cook it "crispy". Their fresh squeezed orange juice tasted worse than boxed minute maid AND was expensive. Take my advice, and DO NOT order the pancakes! The worst rubbery mess I've ever had! I haven't been appetized by the lunch menu - just sandwiches, tacos, etc. Come here if you've got a coupon & aren't in a rush. Otherwise, I'd definitely pass on this place.

I heard about Broken Yolk a long time ago. When I glanced at their menu back then, nothing stood out so I changed my mind about trying it out. But within the past year I've been seeing a lot of Facebook posts/pictures of everyone eating there so I decided to finally give them a try. I came here around lunch time with a friend who was in town for my graduation. We decided to share a bowl of tomato basil soup and an order of fish tacos. Each of us also ordered a benedict.. I got the florentine and she got the western. - TOMATO BASIL SOUP: the WORST I've had thus far! It was grainy and chunky (not in a good way either). I literally had to CHEW this soup! DIS-GUS-TING!! My friend ended up using it as a dip for her sourdough bread and claimed it tasted better this way. Uh, I think NOT! - EGGS FLORENTINE: the hollandaise sauce was way too subtle. And why in the world would you put olives on top?!! -1 star, I hate olives! But at least they offer large portions; granted, not "spilling-over-your-plate," Hash House A Go Go portions but just enough to fill you up. - WESTERN BENEDICT: according to my friend, the avocado was fresh but all I noticed about her plate were the large slices of fruit she had on the side. Bonus points. - FISH TACOS: I don't pretend to be an expert on fish tacos, kuz I'm not, but Broken Yolk's was preeeeeeetty good! The best thing we ordered actually. My only gripe was that my tortilla fell apart with every bite. :( Service? Meh. Our actual waitress was useless. Our busboy, Oliver, came around more times than she did! Seriously. The fact that I remember our busboy's name but not her's must be a testament to that. At the end of our meal, we brought our tip to the register and specifically asked that it be given to Oliver. It put a smile on our faces to see his surprised expression when the hostess gave it to him. Yeah, we're good people ;)

The first (and coincidentally last) time I visited the Broken Yolk Cafe was to have a meeting with a group of deaf people. You know how sometimes people with a hearing impairment speak with a slight slur? One of the guys is a regular at the Broken Yolk and the waitress was very good at listening to them speak. We sat at a booth in the corner which was cozy enough for 8 people, after having added an extra chair to the end. I ordered the vegetarian sandwich and boy was it deeeeelish! Everyone else's orders looked scrumptious was well. I can definitely see myself revisiting Broken Yolk Cafe time and time again.

This past December I was here twice, had the eggs Benedict once wasn't a fan at all. The Hollandaise sauce was too thick and mustardy for me and the ham was just yuck. On the other hand my father loved his so that goes to say different strokes for different folks. The second trip was a family outing for all 7 of us. To be honest I can't remember what I ordered this time because I was so doped up on meds trying to kill a sinus infection and bronchitis before I flew home but I do remember it being much better than the eggs bene I had a few days before. The service for our party was spot on, drinks never went empty, all food came out at the same time with the right sides. And the fruit was so fresh and juicy and delicious I wished I had just order a bowl of fresh fruit instead of whatever it was I had. Funny note my nephew didn't eat much of their food and I couldn't figure out why, well it's because they wanted to hit Arby's on their way home, apparently they can't come out to Eastlake and not go to Arby's and guess what they did because their father loves Arby's too.

This place is amazing! I have been hearing about it for quite some time and I saw it on Man Vs. Food also. I finally made it there and now I hope to make it back for breakfast as much as possible. Everything that we have ordered has been amazing. It is very busy but that doesn't stop the employees from giving outstanding service. If you order coffee they are great about checking back to see if you need a refill. It is also located by a Sprouts, Trader Joes, and other good stuff. Great location. Just saw the numerous not so great reviews for this place and I have to admit that it has been good for me so far. None of the problems that I just read about.

I am a breakfast person, so when Broken Yolk opened near me, I was very happy! The inside is nice, but a little bit small (but it might've been because it was after high school graduations) so it was kind of busy. I don't do well in small areas so I actually asked the server to move us a few times (but they were nice enough to accommodate). I ordered something I've never had before, the Eggs Benedict and I loved it... Although some of the other people I was with thought their meals were salty, I thought mine was good well and tasted great. The servers were very attentive and nice. The environment is nice and clean. The only thing that bothers me is that it's kind of dark inside, but nonetheless, good service, great food.

I think that the greatest thing about the Broken Yolk is their portions - very biiiig. It's a good alternative to your easily accessible Dennys and IHOP. I had their eggs benedict and their hollandaise sauce is soooo creamy. I mean, is it suppose to be THAT creamy because it was so scrumptious!! I just felt a little guilty rubbing the muffin all over the leftover sauce! However, the ham was a little too thick and salty so I had a lot of leftover ham sitting around. My boyfriend had the monte cristo - I think this is one of their signature dishes. It was incredibly huge and in case any of you don't know what a monte cristo is, it is a ham and cheese sandwiched in between french toast - it is really really gooooood!!! I liked that they didn't fry the sandwich like Bennigans, so it wasn't as bad for your heart... hahaa! I also had their latte - not the best thing in the world. Other than that, everyone was very nice and it was pretty chill maybe because we came later during brunch hours so it was a little more on the relaxed side. They have a very large menu and selection of omelettes, as well as south of the border options that I might consider trying next time... otherwise, it's simply good breakfast when you want something simple and hearty!

My Favorite: Western Benedict - English muffin topped with turkey, egg, avocado covered with hollandaise sauce. mmmm! I absolutely love cheese and avocado so if your with me on that one, then this might just be your favorite too! :) The portions are pretty big so your definitely get your moneys worth of food. They are usually pretty busy on weekends (when I have been there) so their service is average. But this place is definitely worth trying! tip: Try to go early if possible because there ends up being a longer wait as it starts to hit 10am.

I've had a few family members tell me they really like this place. What the hell were they talking about? I went with a group of 5 for brunch. Two ordered breakfast and the other three went with lunch. Nothing was spectacular and the service was well below average. I ordered a vegetable omelet call the Tony G plate. It's scrambled eggs with a random combination of veggies piled on top. The flavorless result was surprising. They forgot to bring an English muffin. We mentioned it to them so they brought it out (when we are all done). It was hard as a rock. This place is only good if you're in the mood for a completely bland breakfast and don't want your coffee cup filled more than once.

Horrible service, horrible food.. I decided to go back after a bad enough experience and left with the same experience again. The only good thing they have are nice hostesses and busboys .. If it wasn't for them I'd probably still be sitting there waiting for my server to attend me. Manager walked by and asked if everythin was ok.. I gave him my honest opinion and he just said.. Hope next time you come you have a better experience. NEVER AGAIN!

The Broken Yolk is a staple for me. I usually take my family from out of town here when they come to visit and they always leave with nice fat bellies w/ the look of forthcoming naps on their faces. I usually get the same thing, but their French Toast is consistently delicious! The coffee is good and always filled. The service is spot on and this location has a nice outdoor patio to stuff your face...highly recommended if you're in the area.

This place was ok. I've been here twice, the food really hits the spot especially if you're craving breakfast food, but it's not exactly great. I got the eggs benedict the first time, the biscuit was as hard as a rock, and there was too much sauce on it. The best part about their meals are the hashbrowns.. and it's kind of pricey though and the service isn't too great.

Terrible customer service or they are running some type of scam. After my meal I went to pay using a gift card purchased at Costco and they said their system was down but they could take my Visa card just fine. I would have never came here without a gift card so I was pretty upset. The food is overpriced and service is mediocre at best. I will never come here again.

VERY impressed with their eggs benedict. i like going to different cafes just to try out this specific breakfast dish (it's one of my faves) and i've got to say, theirs ranks right up there with lake murray cafe (but doesn't beat it). their hollandaise sauce was blended very well & had a great consistency to it. i can do without the 2 olives which basically made the eggs look like a couple of tits staring at me. yes, tits - not eyes. the hash browns were cooked just like i like 'em, nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. it's a pretty big dish altogether and is at an average price compared to other places i've been. what turned me off was their service. although we were seated within the amount of time we were told, our waitress was a little slow on her feet and not completely there when taking the order. we had to repeat ourselves several times during the initial order. when you've got a table of 8 hungry people, you better listen up and listen up good. drink refills were also slow. the restaurant itself is really nice tho. having passed by the pacific beach location so many times (but not actually stepping in it), i expected it to appear much more hole-in-the wall, but i felt like i was walking thru a mini cheesecake factory. we were seated outside on the patio on a nice mid-saturday so the combination of that good old san diego weather and the shade made a nice dining experience for me and my family. overall, i think this place is a-ok. i want to say that i'm a fan, but not enough that i would end up craving it so "a-ok" will have to do.

I will never come here again. We sat at the bar near the kitchen and we saw it all. The waiters would grab the muffins with his bare hands and doesn't wash his hands, the eggs got cold and they put them in the microwave and they spilled it over the floor. Our waiter over charged us and barely came to us and the food was mediocre nothing special. Also the waiters looked confused and they had moldy bread and instead of throwing away the whole loaf they picked and choose the good ones.

This place is alright. I had a strawberry salad and oh man was the portions big. It was bigger than the one I had in Cafe 21. I also ordered tea, but I only had one refill. :-( I don't see what the big deal is in this place. The portions are big and they have a great selection on teas, but other than it was alright. Broken Yolk has to step up their game and make me be impressed.

Not bad.... not great.... just a place to go to breakfast. Had the eggs benedict.... nothing special. The hash browns weren't too bad, but nothing that I'd go ga-ga about or rush out to make sure I come here again. It's a solid place with solid meals. I'd say slightly on the high side, but nothing that would really make me drive another 5 miles(which is what it'd probably take out here) to find the next decent place. French toast looked better than it was, hot choc was typical machine/powder based. Nothing really on the menu that was overly exciting other than that crazy 24-egg omelette that I wasn't gonna go near. shrug.

We went to eat breakfast to celebrate my brothers birthday back in June, and well it was a BAD IDEA! my dad and I got real sick..... my dad threw up a ridiculous amount of times while at work, not to mention he dropped his glasses in the toilet while throwing up and flushed them down the toilet not knowing they had fallen in there... not only did we pay for contaminated food but we also had to pay for the price of being horribly sick and paying for another pair of glasses. Beware when going to eat there, I know I will never step foot in there, nor will I recommend the broken yolk to my friends and family, not even to my worse enemy.

I went here with my mother and grandmother and we all absolutely hated our food. I had the chef's salad and it was horrible. It wasn't arranged anything like the pretty picture. The lettuce was mostly, if not all iceberg. The meat was just pieces of luncheon meat. Not that unusual, but still disappointing. The worst thing was the pool of disgusting water at the bottom of the dish from the wet lettuce and undrained toppings. My mother had an omlet and was completely disappointed. I forget which kind she had, but her beef was with the cheese and the eggs themselves. My grandmother had a grilled cheese, although it was grilled in name only. The bread was barely toasted and the cheese barely melted. I see that some other reviewers liked the Broken Yolk Cafe. I'm happy for them but there's no way I'll ever come again.

This place has become a sort of tradition spot for my family, friends and myself. We have never had any complaints and the waiters and hostesses) go out of their way to be very nice and helpful. Additionally, the food is superb. So far I have tried their pancakes ( moist and fluffy but not soggy!), blueberry muffin (always warm and sometimes go out of my way to call in an order for a few to take out!... yes...that good!), the California omelet is probably the best thing on the menu with a side order of beans and chips!!!!! FANTASTIC NO DOUBT and of course their coffee by Illy! best coffee compared with Starbucks and any other breakfast place for sure! Very comfy and homey place, the only negative I see is the back portion of the restaurant that seems too dark and somehow alienated.... just ask for a seat closer the giant luminescent windows : )

Their specialty, breakfast. For all of you who complained and werent pleased with beans and rice plates get yourself a Mexican food place. This is a breakfast house, hello? My favorite is ham and eggs, though I've heard they have killer ommelettes. They have good breakfast options, it's in a nice shopping center, and they also have outdoor seating perfect for sunny days. ...I love the turtle and koi pond in the shopping center, really zen.

I love the food here! they have huge portions of fresh fruit cups and any kind of omelette you can think up. The portions are huge; however, be prepared to wait a while for a table druing busy times like weekend breakfasts. They have an interesting competition where if you eat this gigantic omelette and hash browns, you get the meal for free along with a t-shirt and your name immortalized on the wall. I know only one guy personally who has completed it. They have a patio on the roof where you can eat outside. I think they have mimosas If you don't need a table, you can usually get a spot right away at the counter and watch the cooks going crazy and the waitresses in their frenzy. I love going here busy or not. I recommend the California Breakfast Burrito and the fruit cups.

Pros: -- Broken Yolk in South Bay and Dont have to go to PB for us South Bay folk -- Good reasonably priced food. Not great food, I said good. :-) Cons: -- for my visit for lunch, we were the only table sitting on a Thursday afternoon.... two servers and 3 busboys and one manager in sight..... Where was the service???? It didnt take long for the server to take the order and bring the food.... but she really didnt check back with us until I was out of water for a good 5 mintues, and when we were ready to get a box to go and get the check, I had to wave down a busboy just to get some attention. He then yelled across the room for the waitress to get her attention. Where's the professionalism there, yelling across our table to get our waitresses' attention??? That was just bad taste. At least my lunch (burger) was good.... although I did ask for it to be medium, knowing that they would likely overcook it, it still came out well done.

Their food is awesome and you get a lot of it. Totally worth every penny spent.

The service is slow and their staff can be rushed and rude. We have gone a handful of times because I really do like their breakfast menu... the food is quite good. But they rush you as if it was a fast food chain and then they don't check on you until they hand you a check as if they were saying "you've been here long enough, now it's someone else's turn". Really???? The food is good, but not worth the experience.

one thing i use to test a chef is whether they butter all of the toast of just the middle. I guess if you are only going to eat the middle of the toast Broken yolk is good. Otherwise, try Aunt Emma's or The Pancake house for breakfast. Also didn't care for the TV's running, i prefer to visit with the people i am with, not have distractions.

I'm so over the broken yolk. I ordered the chorizo omelet and it was horrible. the blueberry muffin was terrible. I thought, perhaps I just ordered the wrong thing. I ordered pancakes another time and I can make better ones at home and they were cold. denny's are way better. Then I ordered the breakfast sandwich. It was ok. I do appreciate that their egg dishes aren't swimming in grease but I just haven't had a good breakfast there.

Been here several times but usually come here on its anniversary. Came here on this years anniversary with my girlfriend and it wasn't even that busy when we first got there, yet we were somewhat ignored. Service is mediocre at best but the food is good. They mixed up my order with my girlfriend's order. It is usually better when its not busy during the anniversary. I would recommend going here, but be prepared for the lack of service during its anniversaries.

WHAT HAPPENED HERE!? I was so excited to have a cafe I enjoy close to my home, but oh how the great fall. The Broken Yolk Cafe in PB is terriffic. It has great food, great service and a nice environment. The cafe of the same name in Chula Vista has none of these things. 1st - The service was terrible. I got one cup of coffee and then after waving down a passing waiter I got the second cup just after I finished my breakfast. 2nd - The food was greasey, flavorless and not what was expected. And in closing, I was not alone. The two tables next to my wife and I were looking at their food as if it was some foriegn substance and I actually overheard one patron comment about the hashbrowns beeing cold in the middle. Usually I give places another chance, maybe it was an off day. Sorry, not this time. I will not return here again ever. I have a tip for this cafe...fire your manager and do it quick. You are giving your sister cafe a bad name.

The Broken yolk was so good that me and my mom went to the one in the Gaslamp today food good service eh.

Food was decent, but my Ranchero omelet had 50% bell peppers, which is way too much, and not enough cheese, bacon, etc. And my meal came with an english muffin, which I didn't receive until I asked for it at the end of the meal. So I only finished half, and it was just so-so. No warm syrup! My four year old only ate half of his pancakes, which is saying something for a hungry (normally 2 helpings-type) kid. My husband liked his food, though he had to order 2 entrees to get everything he wanted. Overall, I enjoyed the PB location much more a few years ago, and was kind of let down when we went for breakfast yesterday. It is very crowded -- too many tables in a small space, too close together. But decent...CV deserves better!

I was really excited to find out that the South Bay had a Broken Yolk Cafe open. My husband and I visited today for a late lunch. As expected, the place was still very busy, even though it was after 1 p.m. We were seated almost immediately, but the place was very busy and a little under-organized. I say that because there seemed to be enough staff, but they weren't quite used to dealing with the weekend throngs. It took several minutes for our server to come by and take our drink orders, by which time we were ready with our WHOLE order. I ordered the No Name omelete (mushroom, avocado, tomatio, bacon) minus the tomato, with homefries and the biscuit and their iced tea. Warning to ICED TEA PURISTS, it's tropical/fruit iced tea. My husband is an iced tea purist and was very disappointed that the server didn't point it out when it was ordered. My order arrived in good time, unfortunately due to the hectic Saturday crowd, my server mistook the request for "homefries" and a request for "fruit." She quickly remedied the situation. The eggs were fluffly, the avocado and bacon were generous, but I wish there were more mushrooms in the omelet. Make sure to order the sour cream on the side lest it overwhelm the omelet. The homefries were perfect, a great mixture of tender and crisp. The biscuit was flully and tender. Come here for the breakfast menu, my husband seemed very disappointed in his lunch sandwich. They use Illy Coffee and serve mimosas. Be ready to brave the crowds and bring a news paper so you can bide the time waiting for the servers to catch up.

It sounded very interesting when I first heard about this place. Went here for brunch, had some breakfast. I was kinda disappointed with the size of their dishes. But then I think I'm spoiled living in the BAY getting 3-servining-size meal and say "ahhh that just hit the spot". =| Food was ok, nothing too crazy. Our server was very nice.

This place is ultra wack. I walked in thinking this place is going to delish! Yes, it is very cute...nicely decorated but that's it. My eggs benedict was disgusting as was my "fresh" fruit. Never again. Well maybe to use their clean restroom...and have an orange juice..

I finally tried the sit down service today. The food seemed like it got a bit better this time around. I had the California burrito, and it came with a side of rice and beans. The customer service however seemed to lack in well...customer service. When I first walked in, I waited for a few minutes at the front waiting to be seated. I looked around and noticed I was the second person in for the morning. One guy was already seated. Finally the hostess came up and said hello. Then came the awkward 8 seconds of staring...personally as a customer if a hostess greets herself to you, the part after that she's supposed to ask you if you'd like to be seated or do you want take out service right? Not in this case. She just stared at me...like in a non-verbal way asking what do you want? Since she wasn't going to ask me straight up what I wanted, I broke the ice and said "I'd like to be seated and eat some breakfast please." Man...I don't think I've ever said those words before in a restaurant. Anyways, she led me to a seat and left a menu for me to look at. I was promptly greeted by a more friendlier waitress. She left me some OJ, and gave me another few minutes decide what I wanted. After getting my CA burrito ordered, it came within 10 minutes or so. It was much better then the take out food I had before the last time I ate here. But, the waitress never bothered to come back to check on me, or offer a refill of OJ, which is where they lost some more points with me. Finally, the hostess came back and left a receipt...would've been nice before hand if she asked if I was done or something rather then leaving the receipt straight up. It sorta sent this vibe like "okay, please leave now since we assume you're done." Considering there were only about 3 customers (myself included) when I was leaving, you think they would want more money out of my wallet or something. Anyway, the hostess seemed to perk up as she was ringing me up at the register and offered me some sorta rewards card they're doing. I may try this place again at some point because I really like the CA burrito this time around. Rice was pretty good. The beans weren't that super though.

The bf took me here for the 1st time because he is a very big fan of Broken Yolk. The restaurant is cute and cozy. I ordered my own mixture of mushroom, spinach, and swiss cheese omelette and it was tasty! HUGE SERVING! I was like woah! Ordered steak and eggs and his was pretty tasty too. Yum! They have a huge selection on their menu - a little overwhelming for me because I am a bit indecisive since there are a lot of foods to choose from but I think it is great! I loved it. A great place to go to for breakfast :)

This place is inconsistent however i always get the same thing. I get the no name omelet with monterey jack cheese. Good for a quick bite to eat not so inexpensive. Better off going to the family restaurant in chula vista or national city.

I wish I could really give this place more stars, but this place is really hit or miss. Gets really crowded at times and the food is so so. Nothing really special. I think the PB one had the greatest love by many San Diegans due to the local feel and hang out. Prices seem to be a bit better too! The the thing that always sticks in my head is paying a high price for Orange Juice. Quite honestly, $2 something is sorta steep, then add everything else in, by the time you know it your big party is paying a pretty big bill for breakfast. I'd rather go with my friends and family to Ihop or Denny's for some eggs. Though they might have a bit more specialty items, wasn't too impressed. If you just need an alternative now and then and are willing to pay the price, then by all means. This Eastlake/Chula Vista location is just okay. Sorry Broken Yolk!

We just got back from the BYC and we each got the omelet except one of us got attempted the iron man challenge. The wait wasn't bad for a morning on father's day, 20 minutes and they handed out warm chocolate chip muffins. The staff was attentive and refilled coffee and brought refills on sodas and waters. The omelets were good and we had a good time. Pretty average experience.

So I came in here with the wife. I had the breakfast burrito(eggs, bacon, potato and avocado), it comes with rice and beans, but I don't really feel the rice here. The wife usually gets a Belgian waffle. On other occasions I get a 3 egg omelet covered with chili. It's called the China Syndrome and it's quite tasty. The service has allways been good, and fast. They have a 20 Egg omelet and if you can finish it, you get it for free, your picture on the wall and a T shirt. One day I'll tackle that challenge. The whole thought of it reminds me of John Candy(mmm...candy) on The Great Outdoors.

I was happy to see that Chula Vista finally had an alternative to Aunt Emma's and Denny's. We rolled up for breakfast around 12:00 and the place was packed. We got seated pretty fast even though we had a group of seven. The service was ok nothing spectacular, I had to ask for water 3 times! I ordered the western eggs benedict and they were delicious. This place needs to improve on the service and attention to detail, once those 2 are taken care of perhaps they can be worthy of 4 stars.

insanely overrated... i think i've had 3 or 4 people recommend this place...i've been three times...hoping, praying that the third time would be the charm....big, fat NO... there has always been a wait, actually two waits, the one to get a table and then the one for the waitress once you're at the table... the food was cold, the hollandaise is from a mix, and i almost had to trip my waitress to get another mimosa... boils down to: ~the wait was long (usually an indication of good things to come) ~no good things came take your business to hillcrest for breakfast...

I've heard so many people talk about this place so when my friends invited me to breakfast here I was excited to try it out. In terms of service, the waiter was attentive and quickly took our order. I decided to order an omelette with beef, bell peppers and cheddar cheese. One of my friends ordered eggs benedict and my other a similar omelette as well. The food was brought out promptly but left a lot to be desired. Bland and plain is the best way to describe the meal. The hash browns that accompanied the omelette tasted as if they came from a freezer. I felt like I could have gone to the local Denny's or IHOP and had a better meal. My friends were not impressed with their food either and had no zest to it. After this poor experience I will not be going back to this restaurant and I believe my friends share the same opinion. Man v. Food brought a big spotlight to this restaurant but unfortunately its all hype...

A group of REALTORS from my office met here for breakfast. The waitress was very helpful and fast. She kept our coffee cups refilled too. Everyone's meal looked very appetizing, they commented on how delicious the food was. I had oatmeal, I have to say for oatmeal and all the little condiments that came along with it...was the best. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Service was ridiculously slow! We waited 25+ minutes before doing repeated head bobs to search for our waiter. We told one waitress we had been forgotten, and 5min later had to flag down our own waiter. He said it would be 2-3 minutes, but another 10 min later had to get the Managers attention. The waiter obviously didn't bother to pay attention to who ordered what, as he put each meal and drink in front of the wrong person. The food was mediocre, coffee sucked, & home fries were swimming in grease. One chorizo omelet had plastic casing in it. The waiter never bothered to come back to see if we needed anything else. THIS PLACE IS WAYYYY OVERPRICED! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT.

Come here for breakfast sometimes after working a long night shift because it is close to home. Usually get the steak and eggs and my wife orders something with a Mexican twist to it. Good food not great, and pretty poor service. You will not get a refill unless you ask for it. Love the eggs but the steak there is inconsistent, sometimes tender sometimes tough with no seasoning what so ever. For your money you can do a lot better.

Poor service, cold food and fore some reason salty french toast. I gave this place 3 tries and yup, you guessed it, strike out. They come nowhere near their sister store in the beach area. I live all of 5 blocks away from here and I still jump on the freeway and head to The Original Pancake house for breakast.

I love breakfast food, especially omelets. Upon recommendation, I came to try this place out. They had a lot of "different" choices for omelets, but they were basically the same things minus and plus 1-2 ingredients. Very Mexican-food based in my opinion. I asked the waitress which one is the best/most popular omelet dish and she suggested the Rancher. The dish came out cold and bland, barely edible unless I douched it with tabasco and ketchup. I opted for a side of fruits which came out in huge chunks and unappealing. Service was lacking because one waitress has to take care of a huge area. I expected better from a place that is supposedly "voted best breakfast." I guess they voted themselves. And this place is not cheap either.

I should've checked out yelp before but I barely found out about this website. But anyways I ordered eggs benedict. My wife could've cooked a better break-fast. It was runny and bland. I will never ever go to this place again.

This place doesn't deserve all the hype some people give it, but its fairly decent. Pluses: Good blueberry muffins, coffee and pancakes. Minuses: Over crowded, over hyped, bland food. If you happen to find a coupon in the paper, it will only be good Monday Thru Friday, and not on Holiday's. Note: The more people in your group, the longer the wait.. With 2 people only, I usually get seated right away.

Don't go here. The CV Broken Yolk is the evil twin of the PB Broken Yolk. I have visited several times to make sure it was not an off-day, but each time, it's the same. I always have to ask several times for things like extra napkins, coffee refills, etc. Today, it was not crowded. Cleanliness at the tables was awful...the menus had food stuck to them, there was some gooey stuff on the pepper shaker, the catsup and hot sauce bottles had crusted leftovers on them, hash browns and eggs littered the floor. The school-age children behind us screamed at each other and would not stay seated. We couldn't carry on a coversation. The kids almost tripped a server with hot coffee (can you spell lawsuit?). The server and the manager would not say anything to them because they are customers (and I'm not?). I asked, "If I was to scream and run around, would they let me stay?" Apparently so! Our food arrived and it was not the food we ordered. We ordered biscuits and gravy. When it finally arrived, the biscuits were stale, the gravy on the biscuits was awful and very skimpy. The bacon was served on the biscuits and UNDER the gravy and was a soggy mess. Never got a coffee refill. And the staff aprons...how can they take my order or bring my food with all that filth on them? This is the norm there. At other restaurants, I always leave a big tip, but I left nothing this time, and I think THAT was too much. Don't go the the CV Broken Yolk. Go someplace else or make the trip to PB. The mother Broken Yolk needs to fire the CV manager, servers and bus boys and start over. The board of health needs to put a big "F" in the window.

we labeled this one a DNR...do not return. in all fairness i gave it a couple attempts to redeem itself both i decided to post something and uhmmm yeah...awful with a capitol A. service...boooo! food...ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. tables were sticky, seating to cramped and overall just lacking from the original broken yolk. i guess that's what you get for trying to find something original in cookie cutter suburbia land. sure, i live in suburbia (not really proud of that fact) but next time we're in need of some yummy breakfast we're heading north...parkhouse eatery, hash house, the mission...need i say more?

Ok well I found a deal for this place on Groupon. After mentioning it to my husband and he stated that he had heard decent things about this place we decided to go. Our experience was less than great from the moment we sat down. It took someone 10 minutes to ask our drink order. Our server never introduced himself so we weren't even sure he was our server. The portions are large but that's the only good thing. I ordered the No Name Omelet. It should be called the no flavor omelet. The only thing that had any flavor in it was the bacon. Everything else was VERY bland. I had also had spinach added to it. That was disgusting. It was so overcooked it was just clumps of green yuck in my omelet. I also ordered the fruit which was completely blah except the one chunk of pineapple. My husband ordered an omelet as well but I don't remember which one. He said his was flavorless also so he doused everything with hot sauce. The hashbrowns he got were only browned on the very top. The rest of them were weren't done. The biscuits are tasty tho. The prices are reasonable, but between that AND having to pay $3 both directions for the toll it just wasn't a value to me. I will not be going back.

We went for a late breakfast I tried "The Mom" (Vegetarian) Avocado, mushrooms, hold the bell peppers, onion, alfalfa sprouts. Topped with real sour cream and salsa. It was okay. The service was okay too. They were good about giving us coffee refills but they also made us feel like we had to hurry up and eat and leave so I gave them 3 stars. Check it out and see for yourself how you'd like it. I think it's just OKAY!

Went there for lunch, and I have to say the breakfast is better. I ordered a BLT with avocado on wheat bread, by wife the same with sour dough. The service was slow, and the food was average. The sour dough tasted like regular bread, and they used the end piece for one of the sandwiches. Drinks are very expensive, and they initially tried to charge us for more than we ordered, which they corrected with no problem. Overall, I wouldn't go there again for lunch.

The restaurant facility is nice and clean. They also had TV's where we watched the soccer game while eating breakfast. Service was fine, they even had a person dedicated to refilling coffee. I really wanted to like this place due to the convenient location. However, the food really was nothing to rave about. I ordered a vegetarian omelette and it didn't include cheese. Maybe I'm wrong but I assumed cheese was a main ingredient in an omelette. The hash brown was bland too. The best part of the meal was the warm biscuit. Even my 9 year old complained about the limited kids meal options. At $60 for breakfast for 2 adults and 2 kids, we would have had a better and cheaper meal at Denny's. Overall it was OK, but definitely not worth what we paid for. The free pancake coupon they gave me wasn't enough incentive for me to want to return anytime soon.

I'm stunned by the bad reviews! I went here on a Sunday afternoon to milk a hangover with a girlfriend. It was pretty crowded but they sat us without a wait on the patio. After a late night, usually nothing looks good, but not here. I wanted to order everything that had a picture (what can I say, I'm easy to visually stimulate). I ordered a California Breakfast Burrito - delish! My friend ordered an omelet of some sort and it was really good too. The portions were big enough to fill me up and have some to bring home to the hubby on the couch. On to the service - I'll describe them as confused. We had more than 1 waiter, but they were running around so much they didn't seem to get things right (forgot the coffee, no utensils, etc.). It was pretty full so I give them credit, they weren't purposely trying to screw up. Anyways two breakfasts, 2 coffees, OJ, and some food to spare for us both - around $25. I'd definitely go back...and perhaps next time I won't bring a hangover!

So my boyfriend and BFF came on a Saturday afternoon for some brunch. It was crowded but we got seated very quickly which was nice. I like the Tvs and atmosphere but the food made me a little too full and I didn't even finish half of it. A bit too greasy for me. I probably won't be coming here again. Nothing special as far as breakfast food goes.

our wait was estimated 15-20 min "give or take" which meant 40 min. our server was ruben. brought out our coffee promptly didn't see him for another 15 min. food took over an hour! (breakfast). two out of our four orders were incorrect after our horrendous wait. no apology didn't see ruben again till we asked him for the check. waste of my 2 hours spent.

Wow many negative reviews when i had previously gone to this location this past sunday we were seated in a matter of 5 minutes and we were a group of 6. Yea we did get seated outside but it didn't really bother me since it was so nice outside. The omelets here were very tasty i would recommend the 27 mile south which is chorizo onions and avocado. it was very tasty and usually when i eat chorizo i get this whole oily thing going on but i really didn't get that here. Our food was delivered to us very fast. Service was excellent we got asked by 3 different servers if we already had ordered our drinks everyone here was very helpful and patient. I would definitely come out here again

We've wanted to try this place for a while now, but haven't done so yet due to the reviews that it's gotten. It wasn't until today that we finally bit the bullet and checked this place out for ourselves. It looked promising at first, since the line to get seated was pretty long. We were psyched when they seated us immediately cause we didn't mind sitting out on the patio. Even looking at the menu, which was pretty extensive, things still seemed promising. Unfortunately, that was as far as it went. I ordered the steak and eggs, which was so-so. The steak was tough and had a thick layer of fat and the eggs were runny. My gf ordered the chicken-fried steak, which was also so-so; the CFS had a weird taste to it and the hash browns were severely undercooked. Our friend, Mikey, ordered the french toast which was just an enormous portion but had a strange "sour" note to them. Our waitress sucked...our oj and coffee were never re-filled until we flagged another staff member down...twice! The bill came fast and at $44 for 3 people, we certainly didn't think it was worth it. And then, the strangest thing about it was that when we wanted to pay the bill, we asked the waitress where we pay, and she said that she can take credit cards but cash payments have to be done up at the front desk. WTF!!! Weird... So, we left and most likely, will not return.

pros...good place for some basic breakfast standards. the wife and i wanted to get out of the heat. so where to go when you don't have central a/c in the house. well go to the mall or go eat out where they have some a/c. this place is small but packed with people. i ordered the french dip sandwich, and the wife ordered no-name omelet with home fries and biscuit as well. the sandwich was very plain tasting. wouldn't have finished it without the help of some "kick ass hot sauce". but the omelet was way better. i would say pick something with eggs in it. cons...it is way too busy here. we didn't have to wait to be seated, but we did have to wait to order and then to get our food. service is good despite the overcrowded conditions. a/c could be colder. could have that super blast of air when you open the front door, to keep out small flies and other flying insects. men's bathroom could be cleaner and better layed out. when you open the door to go in/out, you better not being using the urinal. cause that is the first thing you will see as you open the door. the floor was wet with water, cause the vanity and the sink are not level, making it so the water drips onto your shoes.

This place is way over hyped.... have tried it 4 times because it is close to where I live... anyway I was hoping the experience would improve. That was a vain hope. Food cold, service sloppy ie. waitress could not think to tell us the special of the day.. won't be going back. Go to Cocos or Denny's or someplace like that, you'll spend less and the food will be hot and probably more flavorful.

I went here for an omelet. In addition to that, and without my asking, I got a bitchy waitress (Danielle? Denise? Something with a D...), one tiny glass of water with no refills, and the task of asking staff left and right to correct my order-- and everyone else's at the table. This place is a bust- and it's unfortunate because there are just no good restaurants in this area... and I live here.

The food is okay but the prices have increased significantly in the last year or so. Last time I was there I ordered an omelette that had olives in it. As I bit into it, I felt a sharp pain shoot through my tooth. What I didn't know that along with the olives there was also a very large olive nut in my omellete. The manager did apologize and said that it was not an isolated incident. I would think they would be more careful if this has happened before seeing that a large pine nut is very painful to bite into and could cause a broken tooth. So if you try this place and get an omelette with olives in it, make sure you have good dental insurance.

One of the few breakfast places in Chula Vista Eastlake/Otay Ranch area. Portions are reasonable & service is good. They often have coupons valid only on weekdays, not including holidays. The french toast is thick and buttery. Eggs benedict is good, though the hollandaise sauce is heavy.

This place sucked, only bc of the people that waited on us. I've been a few times and each time the service has been horrid - unhelpful, borderline rude, and it takes forever to get anything. The mulit-gran pancakes are super good, but man.

Service is very slow.. Busboys do more than the servers do for you. Food is bland. I'd rather go to Ihop across the street. They let us call ahead for seating when they are busy!!!

Having been to the Broken Yolk on Garnet a few times years ago I went to the Eastlake one with that in mind. This was a Sunday 930a so it was pretty busy. Despite that we still got a seat outside in about 20 minutes. In a Nutshell the food was bad. I ordered the fruit and the plate was huge but aside from the pineapple the rest of the fruit is the worst I have ever had. My friends waffle tasted like cardboard shockingly and the coffee they served definitely was not the Illy they have displayed when you walk in. The service was good as well as the OJ but I had egg on my face (pun intended) because I highly recommended this place. We won't be going back to this location ever.

So we got the Groupon for this place and I was really excited to try it because of the hype. Anyway we get there, they seat us and it takes 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Fine, whatever no big deal. We ordered pancakes, a patty melt and a fromage panini with no avocado and a side of fries. 45 minutes later we get dry pancakes, a tuna melt, and a fromage with avocado and no fries. I politely tell the server that it was all wrong, and she takes it back. Another 20 minutes later we get our order - and they forgot the fries again. With a name like "fromage panini" you'd expect that they use some good quality cheese and bread. Not so - the foccacia was dry and the cheese was like that cheap plasticky processed junk. My husband's patty melt looked like a sloppy joe and the taste was nothing short of awful. We are not that picky but come on I could have had a better meal at McDonalds. At the end, to top it all off, they tell tell us we can't use the Groupon on weekends even though it only says holidays on the Groupon, and the waitress tries to remove the plate from under my husband's hand while he's picking up the french fries. Don't go there - go to IHOP instead.

So our office was having a breakfast thing for the holidays and Broken Yolk won the vote. I called the day before to place my order since I wanted to pick it up early. When I got there the order wasn't ready so they had to put it on while I waited. It ended up being for the best because the person who took my order over the phone misunderstood some things. I only waited about 15 minutes for 10 orders so it wasn't bad at all. Everything was perfect as far as the order being right and they were very proactive in getting all the condiments and extras together. In my opinion, every staff member was very friendly and helpful (I carried nothing to the car myself and they brought me water). The overall feedback from the office was that the food was awesome. I don't find the food overpriced-for all 10 we paid $100. I did see that beverages were a bit pricey but we didn't order any. I will definitely be back on my own time.

This is an updated review... My previous review had two stars, mainly due to the food not being up to par. Their management contacted me and offered a sincere apology, none needed really. They just need to focus on getting better when they get busy, and focus a little more on the food tasting better.

I want to give this a try . And. I was not happy. With what I had chicken fried steak... Why you ask it does not take 3.mins to cook. I did time it. I am a Mystery shopper at other places. So I like to time how Long it take for stuff. 15 mins before The waitress came over to say hello. 3 mins. To get a drink and never asked for a refill.... My chicken fried steak was cold. So I know for a fact they had a few ahead of time. That's why it only took 3 mins to make. And I asked for. Poached egg well done. WAs to Runny. But i still did eat it. . I can get the same quality food at Denny's..

We go to have breakfast regularly since we live mins away, the staff is amazing, the food is good and the quality is consistant, you can ask everything the way you like it. On weekends the wait is very long so dont go very hungry and make sure you grab a bite before you head down there

First time visiting this location. It has been years since I had visited the resturant. Great restaurant. Food is great however the coffee was luke warm and tasted like it had been sitting in the pot for awhile. Typical diner coffee. My kids loved the place. The Hawaiian french toast is delicious!! We did also have a glitch with a kids meal drink but the manager was quick to explain the extra charge and correct it- simple employee error-

I was enjoying a meal by myself while I was on the phone. I specifically asked to be seated outside and far away from others so that I could feel free to talk on the phone. On the patio, several tables away, 3 old ladies sat down and started being rude. They even had the odacity to interrupt my meal and ask me to leave. They had no right to ruin my meal but they did. I wanted to say something but didn't want to start a fight so I told the manager what happened. He was so kind and understanding that I will be coming back. I felt heard and respected and that meant more to me than telling off 3 old ladies. Thank you!!!

Good food, big portions, staff was very friendly. Went in for their Early Bird specials which had decent choices for a moderate price. Would definitely go back. Maybe next time I'll try their 12 egg omelette. They do offer military discounts.

Let me just get down to the nitty gritty: - This place seems to always be busy to expect a minimal wait of 20+ minutes. - The portions are rather big (e.g., their omelette's are 4 eggs and stuffed) and the food is good. - Customer service is meh; my waitress only came back ONCE to check on us and when she did she refilled my water to the VERY TOP, damn near slammed my glass on the table causing it to splash a little, also causing my straw to flow out of my glass. She then walked away without saying a damn word. - When I went up to pay the employee was taking a phone order, looked at me, then went back to taking the phone order: she didn't say "I'll be right with you" or anything. Then when she was done she says "Ready to pay?"...NAH I'M JUST UP HERE WITH A RECEIPT AND MY MONEY IN HAND. If you can't tell, my major complaint is customer service. They get 3 stars because the food is good, their menu is extensive, good location, and indoor/outdoor seating. I've honestly received better customer service at a 7-Eleven at 2 A.M. My blueberry muffin was soft and warm and delicious.

Came In around 1:30pm on Monday, The place wasn't even busy or during peak hour & the service was poor & slow. The waiter claims he was the only one on the floor even though he was chit chatting at a table for about 5 mins before he came to us. He then came to take our order & left to go "help" other customers in the middle of our order.

  • Frank H.

I really like this place! My wife's order was messed up and they brought her an extra helping of her order, corrected, within a few minutes of realizing the mistake. The customer service is awesome! The place remained filled but the short wait time for your food would indicate that the place was empty. Above all, the food is not only delicious but the helpings are very generous. My waitress, Veronica, ensured that my family's very first visit to The Broken Yolk will not be our last. Bravo!

I was a little worries when my wife said this place didn't have very good reviews but we went in anyway. We were seated quickly and when we placed our order, we didn't have to wait long. I ordered the western benedict and my wife ordered the chicken and waffles.

We gave this place a third chance, the service was terrible we waited on the waiter just to bring water we asked several times never showed up. The food was cold the service was slow to none and the food was just terrible quantities very small just very disappointed for the price. We came on a Sunday it was extremely disorganized we stood by a table that was not even being used for 20 minutes finally we asked the manager if we could sit there and he allowed us. Again this was a poor choice after church on Sunday.

Oh myyyy. Let me begin by saying I love the broken yolk. Or maybe I used to? Perhaps it was our fault for showing up @2:11pm, they close @3. We ordered 3 items. 1) chicken club with extra bacon. 2) stuffed French toast 3) solana beach burger The burger was fine. The patty was overcooked and kinda dry but totally edible. No real issues. The "stuffed" French toast should have come stuffed with mascarpone cheese & bananas and drizzled with caramel. Only the bananas were visible as far as stuffing went, there was no mascarpone cheese @ all. The caramel tasted like the kind you buy at the grocery store and top ice cream with. HUGE disappointment because I love sweets and because there's a HUGE picture in the menu on the first page- it sets up false expectations of yumminess. small PROBLEM: we ordered the club with extra bacon. It was brought with one piece of bacon. My hubby asked, "is this extra bacon?" And the server said "yes, do you want more?" Uh yea. The club comes with bacon, it's assumed some bacon will b on it.. Extra implies we want more than the one piece. BIG PROBLEM: the cheese on the club sandwich was MOLDY. Really moldy cheese?? Moldy cheddar cheese. Moldy moldy cheddar cheese. I can't believe the cheese was moldy! Our waiter was great! Courteous, attentive, quick, he was solid. The manager was great, he was apologetic, agreed that there was no excuse for serving moldy cheese. He had the club remade and compd our entire meal. We appreciate it. We tipped the waiter and were on our way. But I can't promise that we will return, and I know I've texted everyone I know that eats there regularly to tell them about their moldy cheese. Lack of attention to food expiration/storage dates could be the ultimate kiss of death.

First time here with my boyfriend and it was pretty good. The server got one part of my order wrong but they let me keep it and got me my correct order so fast! It's a bit pricier than other places but the portions are huge. I'd recommend Broken Yolk :)

The portions are pretty nice, servers are friendly and wait time was around 15-20 min. Not that bad. Price for portions is pretty great. My gf's plate was $11 and she couldn't finish half. Took the in laws as well ended up spending around $60 for 4 ppl. Which isn't that bad. Im really picky with my food, I know the instant I smell it if I'm going to like it. Its was Ok, expected more flavor. I give it a 3, if The food tasted a bit better a 4, the other thing was that the restaurant was pretty small, meaning small tables and don't like it when I don't have elbow/arm room.

I went here on a Sunday morning, food was delish and mimosas were great. They use fresh squeezed OJ and I would have ordered another had my server ever came back to my table. She dropped off the food and NEVER checked back. Luckily the food was great but I was disappointed by the bad service.

I think it was more what I ordered than anything. Service is great. Hash browns are delicious. I just didn't care for the artichoke and bacon omelette. I love artichoke and bacon. But! And this is a big but!! I don't like fatty bacon. I wish I would have ordered the California burrito which my Neice got and loved it. But why beans and rice on the side of a California burrito. Interesting no?

Ohhh man... Stay away from anything that has their carne asada meat. We ordered a Benedict with ranchero sauce and carne asada meat. The meat looked old and it was cold. (Not a good combo!) The only thing I'd ever order from here is their Sweet Potato pancake. It was so good, we were craving it the next day and had to make some at home. Their orange juice is fresh and I believe it's bottomless. Other than that, I'd try to avoid this place.

Usually we get good food and service. Today was not the case. I ordered their breakfast special, 2 eggs scrambled, with bacon and pancakes. Eggs were cold. Sent them back. They must have thrown them in the microwave as they came back hot and rubbery. Pancakes weren't even warm enough to melt the butter. My gf's French toast, the crust was hard. Server is usually pretty good too. Today she didn't even ask if we wanted a refill on our coffee, just came and poured. We did mention it to the cashier and she discounted our meal by 25% . Not sure if we will be back.

I have been there twice and both times the service I experienced that the servers were rude, it took an extremely long time for my meals to come out ( it was not busy ), and they didn't check up on me. The food was just okay, nothing Denny's couldn't deliver. Overall I was disappointed and wont be coming back.

Service is slow. I was in a group of 7. Food is good. Sweet potato pancake is okay (3.5 out of 5), but I will order it again since it's a healthier option. I love the CORNED BEEF HASH (5 out of 5). Probably the best corned beef hash I've had (and I've been to different breakfast spots throughout the US). Please don't change the corned beef hash because that's the only thing that will keep me coming back to you!!!

Food was good... not great. Service was just what other Yelpers said it would be. SLOW. Too slow... And I think I'm a patient person. They need to rectify that issue. We went here for Sunday brunch. The Sunday of July 4th weekend 2013.... So I braced for a long wait to be seated & hoards of people. Surprisingly the crowd out front wasn't too bad & our party of 12 only waited about 15 mins. Not bad considering the busy holiday weekend, time of day & the fact that it was Sunday. We were seated in the back near the restroom which was ok with me cause we had a big party. Menus were given out & it took about 20 mins for our drink orders to be taken. We all wanted water for starters for the entire table & they brought water back for about half of us. Again we waited for all the water to be brought to us... Our server said to us he would be right back to take our orders... and 10 minutes later, he was. Too long a wait if you ask me. When you say that you'll be right back, that's what I expect. I ordered the country fried steak & eggs with hashbrowns and toasted english muffin. The food took forever to arrive. Im guessing 30 mins.?? Now I know we were a big party & that they're a busy restaurant. But they know how busy they are & they know it's a holiday weekend so they should have staffed accordingly. I'm sure our server had other tables to attend do but he needed help. I think it was poor service cause they just could not handle the busy atmosphere of the restaurant. The Broken Yolk is popular. It's been on TV... They know they're gonna be slammed. They're only open for breakfast & lunch and they close at 3pm. Back to my order. The country fried steak was good. Breading not too thick. Gravy was delish... Hashbrowns i would have preferred to be a little crispier. Scrambled eggs were ordinary. English muffins were toasted perfectly... My cousin asked for his corned beef hash cooked/charred crispy. It arrived not that way... It was sent back and when he got it back it seemed lesser in portion & with a hint of syrup taste. French toast in the area on the flat top?? My other cousin asked for his hashbrowns to be cooked crisp & it too did not arrive as expected. It was sent back... Server blamed the cooks saying he wrote it but they didnt follow. I dont wanna hear that. I just wanna hear the problem is gonna be fixed & promptly. Did I mention this was a post wedding brunch for the family?? Don't always trust the Food Network. Don't believe the hype.

I used to eat at the Pacific Beach location (ate the Iron Man 3 times) a lot. When I moved to Eastlake several years ago it was good to see a familiar breakfast place open up. Their food and service have made a steady decline since the day they opened. Over priced and poor quality control is my main complaint. My wife & I decided enough is enough after a particularly poor meal coupled with bad service. I think this is another restaurant who has become a victim of their own success. Too bad...

Wow, this place is awesome. Try the Belgian waffles!!! Well, try anything, the food is exquisite. Also, another thing the employees are honest and very friendly. I forgot my sunglasses at the table after my family and I were done eating and one of the bussers came running to give them to me:)

Food is too heavy, you will get full with just half your plate. You will be downing water like you've been walking in the desert for months, the pancakes are kinda dry but i guess it's the eggs that they are famous for... STILL, the food is waaaay too heavy, you'll get the worst food coma that you wouldn't wanna drive.

I love the broken yolk! They have the impossible food challenge its tough! I watched a friend try it and he failed miserably. If your going to do the challenge be ready! It's tough! The food for the rest of us people is also good! I liked the biscuit and gravy! The biscuits are too dry by themselves. But the gravy is amazing! Gotta try it! The blue berry muffins are good too! While I was waiting the brought out some Brownies which were really good too! The ranchers omelet is good! That's what I recommend! I get it every time. If your going out for breakfast give IHOP a break and try the broken yolk!!

I always like to start out with the good. We were sat down quickly, and our food came out quickly. That's it for the good. On to the bad. The food, although quick, was only OK. Not great, not terrible. But it wasn't worth leaving home & paying for it. What was terrible was the service. Our server took our order. Someone else brought our food out. And that was it. NO ONE ever came to check on us. At all. I had to grab napkins from another table since our server was MIA. Thank goodness they serve your drinks in giant glasses, otherwise we would have been with empty glasses. It wasn't until we were finished that our server decides to show up with our check, and still never asked how it was, did we need anything, etc. As I was paying our bill, I was asked how everything was. Normally I don't complain, but I felt like being honest and told her the food was OK, and explained about the awful service. After her lame "Sorry" she then had the nerve to say "It's because it's the middle of shift change" What BS. I waited tables for 7 years. As a server, your one and only job is to SERVE and give service. Yes, I know you have side work and what not. But side work is not tipping you. The customers sitting at the tables are tipping you. It is only because I was a server before that I even left a tip. Believe me, he didn't deserve it. And I will NOT ever go back to Broken Yolk. I would have rather spent my money at Chick Fil A, which is where we were originally going to go. But we wanted to try something new.

Well..... I tried this place because I saw it on the food network and man vs food, and of course, I got curious. Well this place is ordinary. Id really rather just go to Denny's. I'm the biggest foodie ever and I'm in love with breakfast and this place is nothing special. The servers took forever; our waiter took literally almost an hour to bring our food. The food tastes bland (took a lot of salt and pepper and ketchup to add flavor!) their homemade biscuit is super dry and doughy. The south of the border omelette was full of jalapeños. I made my own omelette and I out sausage, mushroom, and onions; there were more raw onions than there were anything else. Over all, I would not go back to this place again.

  • Karla V.

Very disappointed in the service... The host was ok and the place was pretty much empty so we didnt have to wait.. Once seated it took a good 10min for our server to even come and get our drink order... Very slow and kinda rude service.. Pretty much "are you ready?" And when refilling the coffee it seemed like they were on a hurry and just barely stopped to "fill" the cup. They only stopped once to see if we needed anything else.. Food was average... Next time I I'll go to another location since I've had better service at the other ones. What a shame... The waiters would just hang out where they get the drinks from and chit chat.. Or watch the tv... Two thumbs down...

I have been to a couple of broken yolks, gaslamp, mission valley and PB. While you don't expect 5 star gourmet food or service, most have been average at best. However, the broken yolk in eastlake is especially the one to avoid. The employees care very little if next to nothing about their appearance cleanliness and service. Its easy to see that although most broken yolks are either average or below average, this is the one with the lowest rating of them all. Don't ruin your day by wasting your time at this establishment.

This place SUCKS! They have the WORST customer service. We ordered our food and waited, about an hour later we were still waiting for our food, I practically had to beg one of the waiter to bring my 5 year old's pancakes because he was starving. A waiter named Fernando finally came out with the pancakes and nothing more, he mumbled something and I said "it's ok, this is the last time we come here" and his response was "ok, whatever" I asked to speak to the manager who never managed to come out and speak to us. An hour an half had gone by and all they manage to bring out was my son's pancakes. At that point we decide to walk out and go elsewhere. The manager who never showed his/her face sent a waitress to run out after us and offer a 10% discount?! For what? We never got our food!! What a joke! Of course we declined and got outta there as fast as we could. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this dump. I guess I should have known better than to go to a restaurant that only has 2.5 stars. I should have listen to all the BAD REVIEWS this place has. My family and I WILL NEVER COME BACK! I'll make sure to let all my friends and family what a horrible restaurant this is.

I can't express how awful this place is! My first experience was bad why I decided to give them a second chance is beyond me. My girlfriends decide to grab breakfast and they chose this place since we live near. We all ordered different things and none of us liked our food. I'm a big breakfast person so I was extremely disappointed that my eggs Benedict was cold. It's safe to say I won't be giving them another chance.

This Broken Yoke Cafe in Eastlake needs better service staff. The first time we went here the waitress forgot to place our food order. We waited for 1/2 hour thinking our food was on the way. More recently we sat outside on the patio and our waitress seemed like she was hungover or simply wished she was elsewhere. I had to get up out of my chair and go inside to get silverware, napkins, and coffee creamer. This was on a weekday around noon and the place wasn't that busy. I should have been paying more attention when I saw their three star rating on Yelp!

Big portions, good-quick service. My lady ordered a mimosa and it was much larger than I've seen at other breakfast places. She was feeling pretty good for a few hours. We shared a meal and it was plenty of food for the both of us. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if I was in the area and wanted a typical breakfast I'd come back.

  • Jay J.

I've been here before, but the food and service has really gone downhill. It took a really long time for the food to be served and when it finally arrived, it wasn't very hot. I think they forgot about it. The worst part was when I went to use the restroom, a kitchen employee came out of the stall and walked right out the door! Never washed his hands. Last time I ever visit this place.

  • Jen S.

The Broken Yolk is like the McDonald's of brunch. You come in get a cheap quick meal and move on with your day. Don't expect to enjoy the food, it's cold and the service is non-existence. Seeing how this is the only brunch option in the area I'll tell you how to make this experience a little better. Step one: Arrive early, before 10 AM. Step two: Don't sit outside under the plastic tent. Trust me it turns into a sauna on a hot day. Step three: Get a bottle or two of the cheap champagne, $10.00 for the mimosa/champagne option. Drink two glasses and the food will be tolerable to the point of allowing you to swallow it without choking. In summary you can choke down the awful food or the cheap champagne. Better luck just driving to find another place to eat. Side note: People who typically dine here don't make their bratty kids behave. So you end up dealing with screaming kids throwing either their food or crayons on the floor.

I HATE BREAKFAST FOOD AND BREAKFAST IN GENERAL. With that said this place is yummy it is great my son likes the chicken and waffles, I get the healthy mom omlette. Minus a star because they charge $2.00 for egg whites. I am getting less of the egg, they should pay me for eating less. My two cents. Anyway back to the food, pretty good. I've had lunch here too and it was good. Yes sometimes there is a wait. LIKE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. Duh. When people complain it's just dubm, obviously it's going to be busy. Service can be great or sub par, but never terrible. Went on Christmas Day a halfhour before they closed and they treated us great. No rushing, served us as quickly as possible, and the food was good. So yes I think I am warming up to breakfast just a little. Oh and Oj is yummy tastes fresh.

No bueno. Fruit was old. I didn't even eat it because it looked like it had been siting for a few days. Everything else was unappetizing. I left most of plate behind and so did my daughter. Everything was basically processed junk with no flavor. Even the coffee was gross. I wished it was good but I won't go back.

1+ hour wait, mediocre food. Not worth the wait at all after all the hype. What made things worse was the hostess misunderstood the size of our party. We specifically told her 14 and she put down 4? FAIL. I ordered the short stack pancakes and a side of hashbrowns. I didn't even finish the hashbrowns! The flapjacks were ok, but didn't blow me away. I tried some omelette too and it was just ok to me. Nothing spectacular at all. I was so excited to finally try this place after the stellar reviews from my friends but it was really disappointing. Very overrated. Maybe its just this location? I'll pass...

I gave it two stars because the food was great and getting seated was quick and painless. Otherwise, my last trip in sucked. And, yes, this will be my last visit. My mom was visiting us for the first time all the way from Michigan. This place was one of the top places I wanted to take her so she could say she ate at "that place that was on Man vs. Food". My hometown hasn't seen much action since Dirty Jobs had visited the Mackinaw bridge and Mackinac Island, so give them slack, they're easily star-struck there. Don't get me wrong, I know it's a busy place. However, it took about 20 minutes just to get our drink order, and we already had picked what we wanted to eat by then. My mom ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon. I had the French dip. The food arrived very quick to our surprise. Upon getting her buiscuts and gravy, we noticed she got two measly little pieces of bacon with it. So, she ordered for a side of bacon. She really didn't mind paying a little extra for more to go with her meal. We are humble small-town people and don't get upset. However, when she never receives her extra bacon and has to ask the buster to refill her coffee, that's a problem. The #1 server rule that should never ever be broken is NEVER LEAVE YOUR CUSTOMER'S CUP EMPTY. EVER! That's a big deal. Especially for a meal like buiscuts and gravy, which makes you thirsty. Thats like 70% of your tip. *Quick to get a place to sit- +1 star *Food served at a fast time/food quality- +1 star *never getting a refill on drinks- SHAME! *ordering an extra, not receiving it, then being charged for it- SHAME! This was a most embarrassing morning. If anyone wants some good quality food and service and full cups, come to my house!

This our favorite breakfast food place! I don't get the bad reviews :s Anyway, my first time coming here, it was pretty bad cos i was totally hung over and was only able to take one bite from my pancakes. But my husband finished his omelet and was very pleased! After sleeping my headache off, i ate the pancake at home and it was still good! Fluffy and buttery. Yummy! The next time we came in, I had one of their omelets and i LOVED it! My husband is a big omelet fan and he's been trying out a new one everytime we go here. I absolutely love their steak and eggs too. Perfectly cooked, tender and juicy! The coffee is great too. The servers are all nice and accommodating, I mean sure, it may take a little longer for the food to get to our table cos they're super busy, but it's definitely worth it. I love waking up earlier on the weekends just to eat here. p.s their french toast is to die for!!!!!

If your in the Chula Vista area in SD, Broken yolk is a great place to have breakfast at!! Lot's of choices on the menu, and the portions are huge!! You'll have food coma by the time you leave this place lol Let's see I ordered something called the No named omelet and my friend ordered the Monte cristo. Another time I ordered something called Maniac Matt. Interesting names huh? LOL 3 Stars for me!!!

Don't believe the hype.. THIS PLACE SUCKS! As someone who LOVES breakfast spots let me tell you.. it's not worth the wait. This place is crazy busy.. Not sure why.. the food is bland at best and over priced.. do yourself a favor.. stay home and cook or find a taco truck near by.. No bueno!

Why must I always let my mouth water when reading a menu vs listening to the reviews. While the food was genetic to say the least, this location was HORRIBLE. From no place to wait for a table, well you can stand right next to people who were lucky enough to already snag a table and are trying to eat or stand outside looking like a crazed mob of hungry people all tying to squeeze through the front door at the same time with no manners of making room for those tying to escape. But I prefer neither so off to the side in the cold we stood waiting. Another thing I don't get is they serve egg dishes which we all know cool down super quickly, but yet the whole restaurant is freezing during the cold months. No mTter where you sit you're cold or you're hit with a blast of cold air when a door is opened. Yeah try eating an omlete while cutting up food for 2 minions and feeding baby food to the littlest minion. I ate it cold half way through. The muffins and biscuits where very dense. Over beating maybe I don't know nor care really. Just don't like feeling a rock was placed in my tum all because I wanted to eat a bluebery muffin. Not sure which was more enjoyable. Trying to get 2 booster seats and 1 high chair from the owner who kept telling us we needed a sling for the carseat when the littlest minion had finally woken up & we wanted him to sit with us OR having to get up from the table a couple of times to find a waitress to refill our super tiny water glasses. I won't go back. My husband said maybe but that will be without me or the oldest minion as she was far from impressed. Oh well lesson learned.

My favorite breakfast choice is the monte cristo. Yummy. It's frequently packed on the weekends so I don't go often. Service is average.

It was ok, service was good but it wasn't really anything to rave about. Basically a slightly expensive ihop. But would try the early bird specially the next time we come.

I used to love this place, but the past few times the food hasn't been good. My stiffed French toast didn't have much flavor and my boyfriends plate had a hair in it. I would go again but I'm not sure if the food would be good.

This location has NOTHING on the original downtown location. The staff hardly know English, slow, unmotivated. On my last visit I was served a flat soda (literally half water) and the wrong meal, never corrected. Beware of this Location despite it having a gorgeous building.

This is a Great place for Sunday breakfast or brunch. As there is always a line to get in, you should expect a wait to be seated. They have a nice selection of omelets among other things on their menu. My personal favorite is the "No Name Omelet" which has eggs, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, and yummy avocado topped with sour cream. I add Jack cheese since it just needs the cheese of your choice added to it. My husband, however, enjoys the Steak and Eggs. The wait staff is pleasant and efficient. They are always quick on our coffee refills. If you are up to it you might want to try to the Ironman Challenge. This 12 Egg Omelet was featured on Man vs. Food. Hope you come hungry!

So my boyfriend and I finally got a chance to go to Broken Yolk Cafe. We bought a groupon for $15 for $30 worth of food, but the only location that was left on groupon was the chula vista location. bummer. So we drove for 20 minutes or so despite the fact that I live about 5 minutes from downtown. Our server was okay. He gave us a hard time because my boyfriend wanted to change his order (he changed his mind right after the server left and went to go find him) but he let him change his order anyway. The iced tea was HUGE and I drink a lot of liquids when I eat and I didn't need a refill at all. I order the "The Mom" omelet and my boyfriend had the Chilaquiles with Red and Green sauce and he added chicken. We both thought our food was okay. My omelet was bland and didn't have much favor and the Chilaquiles was okay but nothing amazing. Service wasn't that great. After our server took our orders, we never saw him again even though the restaurant was pretty empty. The only other time we saw him was when we were leaving and my boyfriend went back to put the tip on the table and he told us to have a nice day. Overall, I would come back to try something else, but probably not at this location.

The wait can be long and the service can be bad. It's hit or miss honestly. It's difficult to communicate with a staff that doesn't speak English. It is often very busy and very loud. Every time I've been there there seems to be children running around the restaurant with their parents too busy talking to notice their children causing a disturbance. The one downtown doesn't seem to be as bad in regards to staff and customers. Its much more civilized. The California Breakfast Burrito is pretty good. The fruit boat is huge and yummy!!! The orange juice seems to be freshly squeezed, so there are no free refills. It's nothing special.

  • Elysse P.

I liked the eggs benedict. Do not be fooled by all the bomb dot com menu pictures, cuz it's all false advertisement. The portions aren't as big as I heard... California breakfast burrito was whatevers (that tricky ass picture!!!), the country fried steak was soggy, the NY steak & eggs was ok. My waitress was NOT attentive but I get that it was pretty busy (I have no idea why). OH and they charged me 60 fucking cents for a litle teeny weeny cup of jalapenos. shady.

Third time I've eaten here. And ummm NO. We were seated right away but it took over 10 minutes for someone to take our order and another 30+ minutes for our food to come out. They also forgot my son's milk. And when my eggs benedict did make it to our table the english muffin was stiff, eggs were cold. And the person must have mistaken my food for pasta and the hollandaise sauce for alfredo sauce because my plate was running with it. Everyone else's food was decent- the wait was just too long. The first two times I visited this location it was fairly new, so I attributed the slow service to "opening kinks". This visit has made me believe otherwise. They really need to figure it out. The staff was friendly enough- but the wait for food is out of control.

Been to Broken Yolk every time we come from Chicago. The food, service and experience has been great every time. Thank you and we look forward to coming back on our next trip to Chula Vista. I try to have something new off the menu every time, so it's hard to choose which is better from the Chorizo to the Chilaquiles and so on.

I think the plates are over priced and the food is not that great, well... at least what we had, but they do have good deals for early birds, breakfast for $4.99 Mon.-Sun. 6:00am-8:00am. If I do come back here it wold b' in the morning from 6-8am.

What is with the hype around this place? It might have been good at one time but today's Broken Yolk has me craving Denny's! It was a packed Sunday morning but luckily a seat came up right away. It was right in front of the door on a windy day.... blah... I ordered the eggs with corned beef and my friend ordered the huevos rancheros. Both meals were gross. Let's start with mine: Corned beef was sweet tasting and had bits of char sprinkled throughout. The "home fries" were more like grilled sliced potatoes. It wasn't seasoned or cooked very well so it was more like half cooked au gratin minus the awe. The huevos rancheros came swimming in a pool of water from the pico de gallo. It was a soupy mess, hard to eat and the corn tortilla were stale. There is an ihop and McD's right across the street and they looked so good! Next time, I'll make a better breakfast decisions and cross this place off my list.

Went here yesterday morning for the second time at this location. The first time was pretty good so I decided to go again. I walked in and even though it was packed it only took about 5 minutes to get our table. Server came by within 5 minutes or so asking for our drink orders. Another 5 minutes later we got our drinks. Good so far... I thought. We told her we were ready to order and she said to give her a minute. Okay that would of been fine, except that a minute turned into 13 minutes. We watched as she went to what it seemed like every single table except for ours. She even took the food order of 2 seperate tables that got sat AFTER us. My friend and I were getting a little frustrated at this point and were about to pay for our drinks and leave but then she finally came. There was no apology at all... but its ok, all I thought was "well, there goes her tip." I ordered the monte cristo ($8.99), it had 2 slices of toast with ham and grilled swiss cheese in the middle... so basically it was like an expensive grilled cheese sandwich. It came with your choice of either fries, hashbrowns, or fruit I believe? Well I went with the hashbrowns. When I got my food, it looked delicious! But as soon as I took the first bite I realized it did not taste as good as it looked, and specally as much as it cost. It was bland. Nothing really to it. The hashbrowns were alright.. nothing special. So after drinking our 1st (and only) glass of water, my friend and I asked for a refill, the waiter said "yeah ill be back" and did she come back? Nooooo. Never did she come with our refills, only with our check about 15 minutes later. So if you're looking for good service, don't go to this one, it seems like people seem to think that because its Eastlake its going to be great... uhhhhh NO.

I have been to this place few times . Food is ok I think IHOP had better price and food. Service here is slow. Took us 10 to 15 minutes before they gave us the food and my coffee is warm , i have to asked twice for hot coffee,

It was my first time trying out Broken Yolk. I ordered a John Wayne Omelette with toast and shredded hash brown, and tomato basil soup: total $14. I'm always a sucker for shredded hash brown so I definitely gobbled it up with the quickness. The omelette was delicious. The texture of the chili topping mixed with the smoothness of the omelette and the crunchiness of the grilled onions was most enjoyable. The tomato basil was very good but after a while I felt that all I could taste was melted cheese, as if they got too excited with it. Toast is toast, a little too much butter though but it's yummy with strawberry jam. Service was spot-on and the place was full. A definite plus. I didn't need to ask for refills or for the check, they were both there when I needed it. Kinda scary actually. Broken Yolk is a very casual and relaxing environment. I feel that it would be a lovely place to go on a cold, cloudy day just as I did. I don't know much about their other food as far as burgers and what not, but pricing was a bit on the high end. Not as reasonable as it could have been.

This is not the "Man vs. Food" television show location. That location is in Pacific Beach. WARNING!!! My wife got violently ill a few hours after eating her quiche egg dish! Today is the first business day since we ate at the Broken Yolk Cafe and I plan to call the health department just as soon as I finish writing my review. It's been over two (2) years since I ate here last. That said, my wife and I decided to give the Broken Yolk Cafe in Eastlake yet another try this past Saturday February 4th and boy did we ever come to regret that decision. It bears mentioning as well that I had to return my first plate of chicken fried steak because the steak was as tough as my shoe leather. That being said, I did get a better piece of battered steak on the second delivery, but nothin good enough to write home to momma about... What made it worse was the lackadaisical attitude of "ALL" staff members that we encountered during our visit. Be it the Manager, our waiter, or the front house hostess team manning the register, they all seemed not to care too much about us customers. The broken yolk cafe staff that we encountered should be ashamed of themselves... P.S. If you look at my record of reviews here on Yelp, you will find that I rarely give "1 STAR" reviews. Knowing that, I sincerely hope you heed my warning as I state the following: "stay far and away from this place."

First review ever; this awful place forced me to get this account! I've noticed these cafes popping up all over SD so had high expectations! Wait time was minimal, which was the ONLY plus. They should take their pathetic excuse for "chicken & waffles" off the menu - horrible. I kept thinking I would've enjoyed a McD's breakfast over it any day. The patrons behind us were even displeased; they sent their food back twice. Bless our waiter and his awsm stache for TRYING to be attentive for too many tables, but ill NEVER be back!! No stars.

I thought Chula Vista came up. Well Broken Yolk didn't get the memo. My 4th different BYC location and far and away in last place. Nice and clean location in a packed shopping center made parking hard, but the wait for a party of 15 was 15 minutes. Star, ordering was pretty easy and so was splitting the check, but the server had some glaring flaws. Took half an hour to get the last table necessary to hold 15 people (4 kids take up less space) so I don't know what he was thinking trying to fit 15 in a 12 seater. We would have been better served splitting our party with a kids table and a few adults and the rest of us. So some of us were pretty hung over and water was a key component in good service. I killed my water and my large lemonade and never once was asked for a refill on either. Our of 15 people maybe 3 got refills even after multiple requests. At that point I almost wanted a mimosa to take some edge off things. Tons of food, most of which was really good as was expected for a BYC. Thick omelets walls and tastey fillings, the toast could have used a tad more butter and the kids meals came last. Probably the crankiest of everyone, the kids got their food last. I would have waited for my food for them to not have their wanting stare's as some of us waited. It's not like they asked for something extravagant like Eggs Benedict. Superbly nice day made me wish I was outside, smallish bathroom considering every seat was packed for how many hours.

So after watching Man Vs. Food We ordered the Broken Yolk Café Special (For the iron man or woman) A dozen-egg omelet filled with mushrooms, onions, American cheese and smothered with our chili and more cheese. On the other half of a 15-inch pizza pan is a generous pile of homefries and two biscuits. Hmmm nope didn't finsih it! But it was fun to order and a pretty descent breakfast. Maybe we should of took two more people to finish it off with us but I would go here occasionally again, and for sure get something smaller haha!

Hubby and I enjoy coming here especially after an early church service, it's definitely in your Sunday rotation. Every blue moon they screw up my order but definitely not a lot. I even had a work gathering there once for lunch on a weekday and they all seemed to enjoy it as well. I always order the PAY YOU ON TUESDAY, but today I tried the BREAKFAST QUESADILLA and it was good I had to request sour cream though. LOL after reading some negative reviews below it reminded me of a visit earlier this yr the place was packed so we ate in the patio area, ordered our food my husbands order arrived and mine..when I went to take my first bite i realize it was a veggie omelette which isn't my style at all so I let the waitress know long story short my order was messed up in that one sitting a total of 3 times probobly because of the cooks or a combination of the service but the point is I ended up canceling my order and eating Wendy's drive thru that day. Yet I haven't given up on this place ;-) LOL (Platanos fritos (maduros) would be nice).

I like going to the one in PB and since Eastlake is closer to me I decided to try this place out. I know the place gets busy, and this is what I expected. But the service was below average and this is with the understanding that it was busy. During I meal it died down a little and we even had friends join us about 15 min after we were seated and the server still wasn't attentive to our tables needs. We didn't need much, just enough silver ware to begin with, waters for everyone (those that ordered mimosas or coffee didn't get water) , and also even my friends order of steak dis not come with a steak knife. In fact, there were no servers to be found that she just used someone else's steak knife being that they were done eating. I don't know if service was below average because we were seated at the patio and maybe there are less servers assigned to thus area, but I'll just stick to eating at a different broken yolk.

Is it just this specific location with the bad reviews??? So, I recall this establishment (not this location) being WAY better than this. But the food, at BEST, was mediocre!!! It was bland, boring, and just MEH! I believe Denny's could have done better! The Service was ok, yet uneventful. The Waiter wasn't bad, however just kinda whipped through his job. Doubt I'll be returning ANYTIME soon!!! BLEH!

Ordered an omelet with a lot of peppers and chili on it, can't remember the name. It was pretty good. Too bad the hash browns and english muffin were cold and probably hours old. The english muffin was chewy. I filled up on my omelet and my wife's french toast. I mentioned it to the server who informed the manager. He came back and said the manager would address it if I proceeded to the front counter. She wasn't there. The clerk charged me the full amount. Then the manager walked up, and said she could offer $2 off the meal. A $9.59 meal. I said forget it and gave an okay tip for the server and said I'd never return to that restaurant. It was my first trip to this overrated restaurant. I got a coupon for $2 off any meal at the same location in the mail this afternoon. Wow, way to go out on a limb to retain clients lady. Offer me a discount you are already offering because your food was subpar. Nice. Oh, and I suggest you actually visit tables where they experience issues and not force the customer to come find you.

The Food is ok. It's good, but def not worth the Wait. I expect to wait for breakfast at most places especially on the weekends, but maybe my expectations were to high from hearing good about this place. I just didn't think it lived up to all of the hype. The only good thing i liked was that they served cold cereal for my daughter...

My husband and I wanted to have a nice breakfast on Saturday and thought we would try Broken Yolk in Chula Vista. Well, I ordered Eggs Benedict and my husband ordered French Toast....well, well, by the time we got our food, the eggs on the benedict were hard and cold (the yolk is suppose to be soft), and the french toast was warm. If you want a good breakfast....fix your own at home. It will be made by love. This breakfast at the Broken Yolk, Chula Vista was AWFUL. We will NOT return. I still don't no why people are waiting to get a seat to have breakfast at this place. Maybe they haven't had a good breakfast.....ever.......

Took clients here for breakfast and the manager with short hair, made us feel like we were bothering her for sugar. When I asked the employees for sugar they told us that she has a horrible temper. FYI OWNER the food is great BUT the manager having a horrible attitude is very bad for business!!!!

In my cousin's words "the best part of the meal was the twix in my pocket." I don't like giving bad reviews but I had the worst eggs benedict I've had in my life. They did have good customer service and did give my aunt a nice mini cake with whip cream. However this was one of the worst meals I've had.

The wait was average for a Sunday morning. Came to have breakfast to celebrate my bday. The food was great. We received our food fast. The customer service was awful. Since we received our food not once did anyone offer a refill of coffee or even check how we were doing. We were done with our breakfast and we didn't even get a glass of water. Poor customer service. I rather go to another location.

I've always heard good things about the Broken Yolk in PB, so I decided to try this one out, since it was closer to home. Needless to say, I am not a fan. I took my mom and grandma here and none of us were that impressed with our meal. I ordered a vegetarian eggs benedict, normally my fave breakfast food, and it was very bland. The service was nothing special either. I am wondering if the one in PB is any different, but from this experience, I don't want to waste my time and try it out.

Today was my first visit here. No wait to get a table. Server took 10 minutes to come by and get our drink orders. Not a big deal since we were checking out menu. Our order took long and when it arrived it was kind of cold. I had the basic bacon and eggs with toast and hash browns. It was good. My friend had chicken fried steak and it tasted really weird, like it wasn't cooked fully, you could taste the batter. My niece had an omelette and she liked it. I found the coffee weak. It took way too long for the check. I think if the service wasn't so slow I would come back. Would rather go to Ihop and pay less and get better service.

The family loves coming here for breakfast. The food is good and the portions are huge. The service can be spotty at times. Definite must stop in Diego. The type of food is pretty simple but the portions are huge and well prepared. I love all the different types of omelets and breakfast items. I haven't tried any of the lunch options but the look good and come with good portions. Come early because it does get very crowded. Good family restaurant and if the weather is good I love patio. If you're feeling bold try the Ironman. This was the dish featured on Man V. Food on The Travel Channel. Good luck!

  • Eddie P.

Srsly. Expensive. A to-go meal for three was over $40.00. Tiny portions for one of the meals, and an below average, over fried corned-beef hash. This came with $3.49 for three small orange juices--which tasted excellent, but I think I will invest in a juicer and my own orange grove at those prices. I don't know why some people consider this good.. Maybe the same type of people whom aren't used to good service, cheaper breakfast meals, or have ZERO standards for breakfast. You might as well go to Denny's. It's just as decent and you'll get better service and cheaper food.

I give it 2 star because the food was alright and our food came out pretty quickly but I will not eat here again. First, the waitress was ignoring us the entire 20 minutes we waited just get our drinks ordered. What pissed me off the most was that after our food came out we had no silverware and no drinks. I was fed up after that! I took it to the manager who gave us 2 coupons for free pancakes at our next visit. Verrrrryyyy unprofessional! I will never return. It was also embrassing how the manager came to our table with a loud ass voice and kept saying how he has a short staff. Whatever dude!.over it! Id rather go to freakin Dennys at least id get better service.

I don't understand the scrap reviews. I had a good experience. we were seated right away, promptly given coffee and menus and actual drink orders. I chose to get a bloody Mary, it was made fresh...like literally we had to wait a bit so they could prepare the base mix. upon getting it it was very good. you could tell they used their own recipe. for breakfast I had chicken and waffles. it was good! the chicken was extra crispy and juicy! my hubby had the California breakfast burrito and it was really good. everything came out fast!

Well my husband and I went back this morning, nice and early. We ordered French toast with sausage. Very simple. We thought, ok lets give it another chance. Disappointed even more so this time. First of all they brought the wrong order. Gave us bacon instead of sausage. Ok they go and get some sausage for us....the sausage looked unfortunately like it was yesterdays and also looked like it had been soaking in a thing of grease. I took one bite, disgusting!! They should be ashamed of letting food come out of the kitchen like that. I have been to the Broken Yolk in PB and what a difference!!! Their food and service is 5 stars. We have given the Eastlake one a fair chance....we will no longer come to the Eastlake BYC...PB it is for us. Never had a bad meal in PB. Eastlake should go and see how PB runs the show.

$3.49 for a glass of OJ? $2.89 for 3 skinny pieces of bacon? WTF?!?!? Maaan, I can buy my own carton of juice and a package of bacon with $$ to spare! And, FYI, Costco sells 4 packages of bacon for $8. Do the math. Yes, the food is probably a step (or half a step up) from iHop, which is 2 blocks away. But, freakin' A! The price of the little extra things can kill you. The amount of choices still sucks, too. Oh, and so did our service. After asking our waitress for one more minute to check out the menu, it took her 10 minutes to finally check up on us and another 10 minutes to eventually punch the order in! LAME! LAME! LAME! MEH, I rather go to iHop. =P

Broken Yolk has been on Man vs. Food, but most people don't try the crazy 12-egg omelette challenge. So gross. We just go there for a normal breakfast - it's pretty good, I think I like Family House a little bit more as far as Chula Vista breakfast places go, but hey breakfast is breakfast, and I love it all, as long as they have chicken fried steak & eggs on the menu :) So... obviously that's exactly what I got! It was alright, not the best, but not the worst. Everything was pretty good. I want to say that next time I'll get something else, but really I know I'll still get the chicken fried steak :) Why lie?

My boyfriend and I came here today on a Monday but it was a holiday (Labor Day) so it was busier than usual. With the line, you'd get an impression that maybe this place is better than the usual Denny's or IHOP, but to tell you the truth, the taste in the food is about the same or less, even. However the service was friendly and attentive, so I'm guessing that's a step up... We also got seated fairly quickly, even though we just got there less than 10 minutes ago, and got seated at a 4 seater table when there was only the two of us. "I'm" not complaining though... It's just that the food really wasn't great and barely memorable. I think I was more upset eating there than making the same food at home. I ordered one of their "hot" (spicy) breakfast dishes, but it shouldn't even be labeled that at all. I had to doctor up my meal with a lot of hot sauce that was on the table, but I still wasn't satisfied. My boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak which had a nasty gravy sauce that didn't taste right and was way lighter than the norm. Bland and nasty all the way through. Just kept thinking Denny's, man. Denny's... It's like being on a really bad date, and all you can think about is your ex, whom you still hate, but would rather be with. If you want a different variation from the same experience at Denny's, but with a more boujie's taste in decor, by all means come here. But sadly to say, we won't be coming back. Cuz if a restaurant makes you wish you hadn't spent that hard-earned money, that, to me, is a good reason for such a low review.

Really good chilaquiles!! I get the Divorced, half red and green salsa w chicken and egg. I've had other great stuff too; The french toast is LEEEGIT; once I had the montecristo sandwich; Super GOOD, ham and cheese sandwich that used french toast as bread; The Huevos con chorizo are super good. Its packed on sundays, but I say its worth the wait. I love this place.

Chicken n' waffles was just one waffle and two tiny chicken strips- not quite what the photo depicted. It looked like a kid's meal. The frequency of service was not adequate.

This place gets packed for breakfast especially on a Sunday, no surprise there. There are I believe, two flatscreens in the restaurant. They have plenty of seating including a breakfast bar. They do have outdoor seating which next time I will have to request because last time was reserved for a party. They have a good selection on their menu, including some mexican breakfast plates and a variety of omelettes. If you're a fan of french toast I suggest ordering that if you go here. The serving is HUGE and pretty good! They also serve mimosas here, you can even order a bottle and a carafe of OJ for like $12.99 -bottle service! :) The restaurant was clean and the service was good, for it being busy the food didn't take too long and the waitress did check up on us from time to time. Would definitely choose to come here over Denny's!

Will I eat here again? Maybe (If it's close) Why? I wasn't that impressed. They have good typical breakfast fare, but nothing that you HAVE to come in and get. I mean if you want that ridiculous 25 dollar omelet then of course you have to come. But if you just want a non pretentious breakfast it's alright, but if you're looking for something exciting, you will not find it here. The food is much better than the big chain breakfast places, but not as good as your local hole in the wall spot.

I haven't had the best service here, but I haven't had really bad service either. I wonder why there are a bunch of 1 & 2 stars?! 1 Star for parking & location - It's free in the shopping center complex. It's never too full to find a spot when I've been there. There are also places for dessert if that fits your fancy or if you need to go grocery shopping after. And heeyyy, TJ Max is about to open if you're daring to try on clothes after eating a big breakfast! The last time I came, I was seated with a group of 6 right away. I was worried that the wait would be long, but surprisingly it wasn't. Anyhow, whenever I come to Broken Yolk, I like to share the California Breakfast Burrito with a side of fruit and a lighter dish with a friend. During my last visit, I shared the Very Berry Salad and was very pleased. The meal was just the right amount of filling. I must say the presentation of the food was much nicer here than at the gaslamp location. The plates were full of food and were just more aesthetically pleasing for my taste palette. I've also tried the Monte Cristo Sandwich, Eggs Benedict, and Corned Beef hash but the California Breakfast Burrito has won my heart.

I ordered the california omelet, OMG, it is just a bunch of potato and probably a 3 inches long of bacon that they chopped into a real tiny bits., and it is cost over 10 bucks, no quality food.

this place gets such low ratings -- it's sad! :( I've been when it was busy (for Mothers day) and when it was dead (a weekday) haha... and it was whatever. Its a normal chill breakfast place. They pump it up so much for being somewhat generic. I go back because it's just a decent place for a decent meal. The PB location, I believe is the original..even though it's older it looks the same, and the one in downtown is the same. It doesn't matter where you go, it'll be the same. lol.

I wish I could say that Eastlake has a bomb-diggity breakfast place, really I do, but even at three stars I am probably being too generous with the Broken Yolk. I love a good restaurant breakfast with the family. Something about the smell of bacon, pancakes and fresh brewed coffee that does the heart good. I've given The Broken Yolk several chances now, hoping each time that they would prove me wrong, but each time I walk away convinced that even IHOP, as generic as it is, is a better breakfast option. Most recently the family and I settled in at (or settled for) the Broken Yolk on Easter morning before church. I ordered the Border Check Omelet: chorizo, jalapenos and jack cheese with guacamole and salsa on top. The service was average, the omelet was average and the check was a little higher than it should have been. Unfortunately, this was one of our better visits. On other visits the service has ranged from poor to average. The food has ranged from bad to decent and the check is almost always a little higher than it should be. Not a good track record if you ask me. In all honesty, Broken Yolk probably deserves 2.5 stars...right down the middle of the five stars available. I only knock them up to three stars because A) I have to bump them one way or the other, and B) they are one of only two old-fashioned American breakfast options available in Eastlake. If nothing else, I guess that is a good reason to get out and explore San Diego's finer breakfast establishments when time allows.

We went here as a family yesterday (Monday at about 10:30am) and it was awful. I specify the time here because it wasn't really during a rush, but the waiter acted as if he was overwhelmed. I ordered one of my favorite breakfast foods: Eggs Florentine, and the eggs were undercooked. The whole plate was lukewarm at best and the hash browns were still cold, not cooked through. The spinach thrown on the English muffin was soggy and cooked to a mushy pile of green goo. My young son ordered the grilled cheese, which came with fries, but when the plate came out, it had hash browns... It took us almost an hour from when we sat down to get our food. The service was horrible, and when the manager stepped in to try and help the waiter by bringing our drinks, he only brought some of them, forgetting to put creamer on the table for the coffee drinkers. We got up from the table to get it from a nearby table. We didn't say that anything was wrong with what we received, choosing instead to eat around the bad because we were afraid that it would take another hour to eat. I am waiting for a better option for breakfast in Eastlake...

Huge portions! I order the No Name omelette - 4 eggs, avocado, bacon and mushrooms with cheese. A side of biscuits and gravy and side of fresh fruit. We went on a Sunday morning so there was a little bit of a wait but it was worth it. Yummy food and I'll def go back.

The Broken Yolk Cafe is the perfect place to go for a nice breakfast or brunch with the family. This location particularly is located in Eastlake Chula Vista....however keep in mind there is another location in Pacific Beach. This location is fairly new, so comes with the clean facility with clean restrooms. My Dad and I decided to head out to grab breakfast, and sure enough we picked the right place. Depending on what time you go there are breakfast specials and lunch specials.....I believe the specials are only available Monday thru Friday. I had the Chicken Fried Steak as a side with a short stack of Strawberry Pancakes with whip cream on top. DE-licious! Needless to say we both walked out holding our stomachs with a smile on our face. Man of food was here too. They have a "Twelve Egg Omelet Wall of Fame". If you dare!!!!

Service was bad. I haven't met a waitress with that much attitude in a long time. Then she screwed up our order - we ordered a fruit plate to come before anything else was ordered, waited 15 minutes, saw them bring a fruit plate to the table next to ours, asked about ours and the waitress realized she gave it to the wrong table. (The patrons at the table who did get it also didn't say a word about it, and were shoveling fruit in their mouths). The rest of our food ended up coming at the same time as the fruit plate. My enchiladas were fine, nothing special. My dining companion got a turkey sandwich, and said it was nothing special. I would give this place 2-3* for food, 1* for service.

I came for the GroupOn special, bought it $15 for $30 of food. We paid $6. It is extremely hidden. If you don't live in Eastlake or aren't familiar with it, you're gonna get lost. I was lost for so long because the sign that says what's in the shopping center, says nothing about Broken Yolk.... I must say, the service is really slow. I had to ask for water twice before I got it, it was the smallest glass of water, ever. I did read on yelp that this was the most disgusting tomato basil soup ever, but I still ordered it to see for myself. Because you think how bad can it possibly be, right? Let me tell you, it was thick. Thick like pasta sauce. Saltier than ever. I got it, took one bite and pushed it to the side. Boyfriend goes,"what's wrong? you don't like your soup?" Babe it's not soup, it's thick as hell. "yeah I can see that" Server comes back and says you don't like your soup" No.... "It's too salty huh? I'll bring you chicken noodle" Fortunately, the chicken soup was way better, but it still was a little salty. I will never have tomato basil soup from anywhere but Nordstrom, every again... The price you pay for a side of fruit, is almost ridiculous. Seriously 4 pieces?? Maybe I like fruit too much for their taste. Their salads look pretty damn amazing though. I had the Rancher omlette which was pretty good. I enjoyed it a lot. I liked their hash browns because they were crispy.. My bf made his own omlette, he was mad that mine was bigger than his. Lol. I wouldn't come to this location again, I think if I were to go back to Broken Yolk, it'll be in PB or DT.

I came here on New Years Day 2008 and I really remember this place being much better. Our party was in here for about 40 minutes before ever getting any kind of food service. The hostess put us inside first after waiting about 10 minutes for an outside table. When we were moved outside we found it completely empty. The busboys also did a better job of waiting on our table. We saw our waitress maybe twice the whole time. She also charged us for items she never brought to us. The music is a never-ending loop of 90's bubblegum pop. hatehatehattttteeee. As far as the food, there's a lot of choices, and it's kind of hit or miss. I'd just go down the street to IHOP and avoid the frustration of eating here though...

FOOD: Okay, not great, but for Eastlake, take what you can get. SERVICE: Kinda slow, but not bad. ATMOSPHERE: Friendly, inviting, seems very popular. My mom and I came here for breakfast on a weekday morning around 10a and it was PACKED. What jobs do all these people have that let's them show up after 10a or come in late? I want that job. Anyway, my food was alright enough to eat. The biscuits n gravy tasted like I expected, the gravy was clearly not homemade, but whatever. I've had much, much worse (look at my previous review). The waiter was a little slow to refill cups, but it was so busy I'll let it go. I liked the atmosphere, it seems like a place everyone in the area goes to. My parents are thinking of moving to Eastlake so if/when they do, I'll probably be in here more. For a good breakfast experience, DZ Akins off the 8 at Lake Murray is a LOT better.

This broken yolk is definitly broken. Coffee is bad, and i mean all of them. Mocha, espresso, cold n hot, etc. Omelets are huge I'll give it that, but IMO i like my omelets dry. I received mine wet n moist inside. Ok customer service, however I wont b returning ever.

I have always been a huge fan of breakfast. When we arrived, of course, the line was ridiculously long, after being told it would be a 30 minute wait time, to my surprise 5 minutes later my guest and i were seated. The staff was friendly, they did forget a few things but after calling someone over we were extremely pleased. Way to go!

This location is the only Broken Yolk I've been to, I've heard the other ones are better but I have yet to verify. I have to admit, when they first had signs for a Broken Yolk in Eastlake I was beyond excited - finally an awesome breakfast place that's close to my house! My previous breakfast spot was The Eggery in PB, and that's not exactly conveniently located for me. So maybe my expectations were too high coming here, but I feel I still have to give my honest review with this restaurant. The food wasn't what I was expecting. It's moderately priced, and they give enough food, but the flavor just isn't there for me, kind of bland. Service was less than spectacular. It may have been because the place was packed at the time. I haven't been back here for some time, but I imagine that it's been even more busy since Adam Richmond came to San Diego, so I'm almost afraid to go back. Since this location is close to my house, and the only other breakfast alternative in Eastlake is IHOP, I'll probably be back, but the bar is definately low now.
